Andrew Clem Should Clam Up

It seems that after all the attacks on the SWAC bloggers by Dr Andrew Clem the truth is unfolding in the press. (Bold Print by me)
Group meets despite ruling from state party officials.
STAUNTON — An unauthorized meeting of a group of Staunton Republican Committee members Thursday revealed divisions amongst at least some in the local party that may require mediation. Andrew Clem and others who signed and distributed a letter to call the meeting said they'd hoped to discuss concerns about the direction of the party amongst committee members. However, party leadership moved to block the meeting, with officials from the top of the Republican Party of Virginia handing down notice Thursday afternoon that no committee meeting could be called.
Well Well Dr Clem, going against the orders of the party is a bold move indeed. The question is if Clem's arguments and attacks have been truthful, the party leadership is not buying it. I never have bought into Clem's claims. It is now becoming clear who is behind the party woes in Staunton. Get this quote-
Thursday's group decided to draft a letter to Taetzsch that expressed their continued support for their chair, provided that she recognize Clem as the legitimate secretary, stop county leadership from attending city committee meetings, and follow both the bylaws of the Republican Party and Robert's Rules of Order in conducting meetings.
Sounds like bullying to me. Trying to broker a deal before the higher ups rule on the matter? It sure sounds like it. The fact is Clem drafted a letter to have a meeting the Party ruled as illegal. Did Clem listen to the leadership? No, he proudly posts this in the face of the party leadership.
Staunton Republicans meet! Or at least some of them did, anyway. I hate to disappoint all my "well-wishers" from the Other Party,* but the meeting call I sent out last week was ruled invalid this afternoon.
For a man who is complaining about following rules he sure does disrespect the rules that are in place. He knowingly purged 20 members and now he wants rules? Clam up Clem.
Dr Clem has his six supporters and the Democratic blogs on his side. On the other hand Staunton Republican Committee Chairwoman Anne Taetzsch looks to have the majority of the membership on her side. Her elected position is not in question here, but Clem's is. As I said before, the truth will come out. This is only the beginning.

Duncan Hunter - Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act of 2007 (H.R. 2942) Please Read and show support!

Duncan Hunter is a unique candidate. I have tried to pound the message that his appeal to the blue collar working man is unequaled by other candidates. His appeal is through hard work and legislation, not talking points and media. The Coalition of American Manufacturers, Producers and Workers has this on Duncan's Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act of 2007 (H.R. 2942).
WASHINGTON, June 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The China Currency Coalition, an alliance of industry, agriculture, and worker organizations whose mission is to support U.S. manufacturing and production, welcomes the introduction by Congressmen Tim Ryan (D-OH) and Duncan Hunter (R-CA) of the Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act of 2007 (H.R. 2942). This WTO-consistent legislation updates the Fair Currency Act of 2007 (H.R. 782), introduced earlier this year by the two congressmen, which the coalition also strongly supported.(LINK)

Ex United Mine Workers President Richard Trumka says
AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard L. Trumka, one of two co-chairs of the coalition, requested quick movement on the legislation on behalf of the federation's 10 million members. "Our members support this bill, as their jobs continue to be lost to China through unfair competition. The AFL-CIO respectfully urges the Ways & Means Committee to move this bill quickly so that it can be voted on promptly by the full House of Representatives."
When was the last time you saw Labor swooning for a Republican and his legislation? Duncan gets it! He wants to build the Arsenal of Democracy and level the playing field on trade. He does not just talk about it, he acts. When I say act, I mean legislation, not TV shows. Let Duncan break it down for you step by step-Click Here. Duncan's leadership will make America great again. He will fight hard to bring those manufacturing jobs back home.
“American workers are the most productive and innovative labor force in the world. Unfortunately, they are asked to compete in an unfair environment against other workers who make only a fraction of a living wage and are employed by companies that face few, if any, responsibilities to the environment or the long-term prospects of their employees. Our domestic manufacturers are forced to compete against foreign companies that benefit from their country’s currency and regulatory regimes. Ominously, China is cheating on trade and using billions of American trade dollars to build ships, planes and missiles at an alarming rate while, at the same time, taking millions of American jobs. I will reverse this “one-way street” with a new policy of fair trade for the American worker."- Duncan Hunter
Help get this man elected, his leadership is needed. No fancy talk, no TV shows, just a 26 year record of solid leadership.

Latino Support for Duncan Hunter

I posted about Duncan Hunter being the only GOP candidate to accept the invitation to speak at National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials in Orlando event. Well guess what:
The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials invited all Republican presidential hopefuls to its annual convention at Disney World in Buena Vista, Fla.
Only one showed up — Rep. Duncan Hunter, of California.
A grateful audience gave Hunter a standing ovation Friday and some convention goers posed for snapshots with the congressman after his question and answer session.
Standing at the lone candidate podium which was decorated in red, white and blue, Hunter was asked about his plan to fix the nation’s immigration system.
“We need to build the fence and build it quickly,” he said. (LINK)
It is good to see Duncan and his message recieved an ovation. His message is atrong and clear on immigration - Build his Fence. It is the starting point and it will save lives. Duncan adds:

After the forum, he told reporters the fence would also keep people from dying in the desert of heat exhaustion.

“If 200 kids a year were dying in a canal the first thing you would do is fence it,” he said.

Indeed. Support Duncan Hunter by clicking here.

Bob McDonnell

NLS had a poll about the next Governor. McDonnell was the winner and Ben had a follow up post here. It is a good read.
I met the AG last year at the Blogs United in Martinsville event. I was leaving the Hampton Inn as he was arriving. I spoke to him for a good 15 minutes and he was the first to sign the quilt we presented to Alton Foley. The McDonnell 2009 campaign is up and running. I guess you never can start early enough. On a personal note, I really was hoping that if Warner retired the AG would seek his seat. I would love to have his conservative vote in the senate. I must add that Bill Bolling signed the quilt also. Alton has said that "The next Governor of Virginia signed his quilt" and I agree.

Chris Benoit - Wikipedia - IP Address

News of Nancy Benoit's death was inexplicably posted on Wikipedia 14 hours before the police discovered the bodies. This was initially reported on Wikinews and later on FOXNews.com. The original posting reads: “Chris Benoit was replaced by Johnny Nitro for the ECW Championship match at Vengeance, as Benoit was not there due to personal issues, stemming from the death of his wife Nancy.” The phrase "stemming from the death of his wife Nancy" was added to the English Wikipedia's "Chris Benoit" article at 12:01 a.m. EDT on June 25,[107] whereas the Fayette County police reportedly discovered the bodies of the Benoit family at 2:30 p.m. EDT (14 hours, 29 minutes later). The IP address of the editor was traced to Stamford, Connecticut, which is also the location of WWE headquarters.[108] After news of the early death notice reached mainstream media, the anonymous poster accessed Wikinews to explain his seemingly prescient comments as a "huge coincidence and nothing more".[109]

The police are seeking information about the anonymous editor.[110]

LINK.

Interesting. The police, DEA, FBI, all know the authors IP address and they still don't know who posted the article. I bet Waldo knows! Heh.

Duncan Hunter - Statement on the Failed Amnesty Bill

"From the very beginning of the immigration debate, the American people were clear in their strong opposition to granting amnesty to more than 12 million illegal immigrants. While this flawed piece of legislation should never have been considered in the first place, I commend my colleagues in the Senate who positioned themselves with the American people and rejected this amnesty bill.

"The idea that amnesty must be accepted in order to achieve secure and enforceable borders is absurd. The effort to provide citizenship benefits to millions of illegal immigrants failed -- not once, but twice. It is time that we abandon the concept of rewarding those who have broken our laws and take action to secure our borders and enforce existing immigration laws. This is what the American people have been demanding and this is what they deserve.

"Executing one existing law in particular, the Secure Fence Act, would go a long way to bringing a greater element of security to our Southern land border. By constructing double-layered security fencing across the major smuggling corridors on the U.S.-Mexico border, as required by the Secure Fence Act, we will have taken a significant step towards achieving a border that is enforceable and no longer a conduit for illegal activity." - Duncan Hunter

Floating Down a Lazy River

Jerry at From On High writes : "When the number of turds floating in the lake you enjoy swimming in exceeds safe limits, what do you do? Raise the limit!" Check it out here. Personally, Jerry, I think that we should hold a democratic convention there and give them all them all floaty toys with leaks and let them take their chances. Jeff Evans - 20th District - Roscoe Unhinged? A Must Read!

20th District
Roscoe Reynolds vs. Jeff Evans

(Bush 62.2%, Kilgore 53.7%, Allen 58.5%, YES 75.4%)
Again, good demographics for an upset, and a broke Republican challenger.
The above analysis from NLS. Is money a huge issue in the 20th? It is important but not so much as in other areas. The media is limited in the 20th. This one will be decided on the ground. I think Jeff Evans will give Roscoe the run of his life. Check His website out here. Nice! Designed by Alton Foley.
Jeff's home page has been updated. The new "Traffic Fees Law"(link to SB1196) is the subject. When you read it you will see Roscoe has become unhinged with his responses about this.
By SHAWN HOPKINS - Bulletin Staff Writer
State Sen. Roscoe Reynolds, D-Ridgeway, said he can foresee serious potential problems with the new law.
Those consequences are that people will lose their licenses because they cannot pay the large fines, be forced to drive anyway because they must work and then end up in jail, where they will become an additional drain on taxpayers.[link to article]
Okay Roscoe, I agree. Then we see that the bill has W. Roscoe Reynolds (chief patron).
Jeff writes:
In that article Reynolds also said the measure was not his first, second or third choice to provide more transportation funding, adding it was unfair to call the new law a compromise, saying that in a compromise both sides get something they want.

“You had two choices, either do something like that or do nothing.”
What my opponent does not say during that interview, and the Bulletin never mentions, is the fact that this legislation, which he claims to abhor, was introduced in the Senate on January 10, 2007 by Senator W.Roscoe Reynolds himself.

This is just unreal! Roscoe Unhinged.

The war on terror....Amnesty for illegals

“Every lesson in history tells us that the greater risk lies in appeasement, and this is the specter our well-meaning liberal friends refuse to face—that their policy of accommodation is appeasement, and it gives no choice between peace and war, only between fight and surrender. If we continue to accommodate, continue to back and retreat, eventually we have to face the final demand—the ultimatum. And what then?” —Ronald Reagan
Something to think about. The war on terror....Amnesty for illegals....We are waving the white flag.

Fred Thompson Interview

Thompson addresses his 18 years as a lobbyist...well sort of.
Fred Thompson, a likely Republican presidential candidate, on Tuesday defended his work as a Washington lobbyist, telling The Associated Press that lobbying is an important part of life because "government's got their hands in everything."
He does not address his work for Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Read it all here. Am I the only one to think Thompson is going to have to come with a detailed response to this?

And so it begins.....

Raising Kaine has discovered Fred Thompson. The rant is here. The author brings up some of the same issues I have posted about Fred. The biggest being LOBBYIST. I think Ms Coulter was right when she said this about Thompson.
CUOMO: Do you think Fred comes in and champions the day? Do you think John McCain holds it?

COULTER: I think he's kind of our [Sen. Barack] Obama [D-IL], which is to say --

CUOMO: Interesting.

COULTER: -- it just shows how unhappy we are with McCain, Giuliani and Romney that -- that Thompson steps in. People know very little about him and "Oh, he's our guy," and it's sort of like that with Obama, that the Democrats aren't happy with their leading candidate, [Sen.] Hillary [Rodham Clinton (D-NY)], so they gravitate to Obama knowing nothing about him, and him being, you know, 14 years old. (LINK)

Lobbyist is a dirty word to voters and Fred has 18 years of that to deal with. I like Thompson better than the other top three, but compared to Duncan Hunter and his record of service they all fall short. I have been accused of being anti Thompson for the questions and posts I have asked or published. That is far from the truth. I see a firestorm ahead for Thompson if nominated. I see Hollywood stories and his record of lobbying far outweighing his Senate record. Get ready Fred Heads, the storm is coming, and I was one of the first to tell you.

Duncan Hunter - The Lincoln Tribune

Wayne King of the Cleveland County Republican Party in North Carolina has a good article up in the Lincoln Tribune.
Last year President Bush signed into law the Secure Fence Act, which was introduced by Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), who is currently running for the Republican nomination for President. The Secure Fence Act initiated the construction of 854 miles of double-layered fencing along the Mexican Border. This piece of legislation represents the right way to begin immigration reform - with strong border security.
The San Diego border fence has already proven its effectiveness. Illegal alien apprehensions along the fenced region dropped from over 202,000 in 1992 to about 9,000 in 2004. Since the construction of the fence near San Diego, crime rates in the area have dropped by 56.3%.
The fence has also forced drug smugglers, who use to easily cross the border near San Diego, to attempt to enter the United States through major ports of entry instead. This increases the likelihood of discovery and seizure of illegal narcotics entering our country.
No matter what its supporters say, the current Senate plan includes amnesty and it backtracks on past promises to secure our borders. Amnesty without border security and law enforcement clearly doesn't work. Furthermore, this plan is unfair to those who have come into the country legally, undermines our country's respect for the rule of law, and encourages even more lawbreaking in the future.(READ IT ALL)
I agree with Mr King, this is a shame. Duncan Hunter is standing strong to protect America. Build the fence and provide no amnesty to the law breakers.

Duncan Hunter - The Only GOP Candidate to Appear at Latino Event

Duncan Hunter is the only Republican Candidate attending the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials in Orlando this week. Their website is here. Seven Democratic Presidential candidates are participating. "Republicans Giving Up On Latinos" was the headline on a Democratic Party news release about the event.
There is nothing I can say to defend the GOP candidates not attending. This a problem the GOP must address soon.

Republican Candidate may have to withdraw

J H Rivers is running for the District Three seat on the Wise County Board of Supervisors. There is a problem though, he works for the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy. Enter the Hatch Act.
The federal Hatch Act, which prevents federal employees from participating in partisan elections, might apply to Rivers. If the Office of Special Counsel determines that it does, Rivers, a Republican, will have to withdraw from the race for the District Three seat on the Wise County Board of Supervisors.
My gut feeling is they will rule against Rivers, leaving the Republicans searching for a new candidate.
According to Wise County Registrar Tom Chester, if the Office of Special Counsel’s findings result in Rivers’ withdrawal from the race, the local Republican party will have until 60 days before the election to nominate another candidate. (LINK)

Andrew Clem Mayday Mayday ! - Democrats to the rescue!

This is just hilarious. With Clem's recent problems that I wrote about here, a mayday was issued. Spanky issued a challenge to Clem to prove his accusations. Clem has so far been silent and not backed up his accusations.
Enter JC Wilmore (The Richmond Democrat) and FT Rea (Slantblog) to the rescue! They both come to the aide of Clem and attack the Bloggers4Sayer. Aren't you glad these two Democrats care so much about the Republican party. Clem basks in the attention with this post. I am failing to find any GOP bloggers supporting Clem and his snake like position.
In fact, the only people that have attacked the bloggers4sayre have been Clem and the democrat/icks. That my friends is very revealing indeed.
Why does Clem and his democrat/icks supporters fail to understand why we have primary elections against incumbents? Why is it all the accusations against bloggers4sayer are never backed up with links to posts that are in question? Readers notice this. That, Dr Clem, is why the GOP blogs are not supporting you and your agenda. But feel good about yourself anyway, you have JC and FT on your side.

Duncan Hunter - "he is magnificent"

COULTER: "Actually, my favorite candidate is [Rep.] Duncan Hunter [R-CA], and he is magnificent. The problem is most people say, "Who's Duncan Hunter?" He's a genuine war hero. He has one son, I think, in Iraq, one in Afghanistan. He is good on every single issue. He has been out front on building a wall. He did build a wall at San Diego. He's very good on -- on the life issue. He's good on everything."
I wish she was saying that about me. Great interview! She compares Fred Thompson to Obama...a must see.

Dr Andrew Clem - Exposed

Swac Girl and Spank That Donkey both have posts up about Dr Andrew Clem. Swac Girl has "Are Sayre supporters being purged from Staunton GOP?"
STD has "Clem working to 'Doom' Hanger..."
STD and SG both present strong cases against Clem with their posts. There is just too much evidence against Clem to ignore. Clem's letter was in clear violation of Staunton Committee Bylaws, Sixth District Bylaws, and the State Party Plan. It looks like the true villain has been exposed and I expect the 6th district will handle the problem accordantly. Clem is in trouble:
Fred Anderson, Chairman of the Sixth District, was contacted, as well as Congressman Bob Goodlatte's office, and available Delegates and other 6th District members.
As a result, the Chairs and Vice Chairs of Staunton and Augusta County Republican Committees (Anne Taetzsch and Bruce Gover, Kurt Michael and Lynn Mitchell) met with Congressman Bob Goodlatte at Rowe's Restaurant last night to discuss this issue.
Congressman Goodlatte assured the Chairs that he would back them in keeping their positions and thanked them for all the hard work they have done over the years for the GOP. It is the commitment of the Chairs, the Congressman, and other concerned individuals to hold this Party together despite the conscious effort of a few to split it.(LINK)
Very ethical Dr Clem. Time to MOVE ON!

We dont have water, but we have broadband...

From Vansant to Clintwood, Internet access is coming to Buchanan and Dickenson counties.
The Southwest Virginia counties received a $1.55 million grant from the federal Economic Development Administration to bring broadband Internet access to the area. The deployment, which was announced Friday by U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher, D-9th, should begin in six to nine months(LINK)

Maybe a bike and hiking trail should go hand in hand with this. Boucher states that "This is one of the best infrastructure investments we can make for economic prosperity in the future," I think that is arguable. Broadband is a great resource Rick, it has brought us one failed call center after another. Your plan says:

Boucher’s plan calls for Bristol Virginia Utilities to deploy 45 miles of fiber optic cable along state Route 83, starting in Vansant and ending in Clintwood. Along the route, fiber optics will run through the Lover’s Gap industrial site near Grundy and the Dickenson County Technology Park in Clintwood.

How much of that route can provide a business with the real necessities needed? Like water and sewer? Maybe two miles ? You can build roads and lay all the fiber optics you want, but without basic water and sewer nothing will happen.

BTW Rick - It is about time Dickenson County has a big airport also.

More Smelly Hippies to protest Wise County Coal Power Plant

Here we go again.
A parcel of land in Southwest Virginia has become the focus of a statewide debate, and on Monday protesters will take their message to Richmond – No new power plant in Wise County. Up to 200 people are expected to gather in front of Dominion Power’s Richmond headquarters on Monday to protest construction of a coal-fired plant in Wise County they say would pollute the community and do more harm than good.(LINK)
I guess these idiots figure we do not need electricity. The new plant is a state of art clean coal technology plant. It will create hundreds of jobs and provide us with power.

Mike Ewall, founder of Energy Justice, a national organization that works with communities under threat of pollution, said the biggest problem is the burning of waste coal.
"It’s a mixture of coal and rock that you have to burn a lot more of to generate the same amount of energy of regular coal," he said. "And it creates a lot of ash that has to be dumped somewhere."

Yes, burning anything crates ash. Flyash is added to concrete, building materials like dry wall and many other products. Ewall misleads with his statement. Coal is blended to create a mixture that will provide the right amount of BTU's and low emissions. No matter what the ash content may be, the emissions standards are the same and required by law. While high ash coal may be cheaper, cost is increased by its use and that is a well known fact.

I hope the tree huggers stay in Richmond. Wise County wants this plant and the jobs it will provide.

Racin' in Whine Country

The Racin' takes place at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma California. This track has 10 turns, is measure in kilometers and there are 110 laps which add up to 218.9 miles, or 352.21 kilometers if you prefer. There are 52 cars attempting to make the race this week.

This is the first road course for the COT (Car of Tomorrow). NASCAR has the attitude that they own this COT and they are merely allowing the the race teams to use it. Given that, there are certain areas that they will allow the teams to work with but there are other places that are a definite "don't even think about touching that" area and the teams have already been warned that the "cheaters" as the Beloved Kilo calls them will pay a stiff penalty.

Today I must hang my head. As you know I decided that to help Kilo and his driver #31 Jeff Burton out I would root for #24 Jeff -Whiner- Gordon. Well, now he can be called Jeff "Cheater" Gordon. His car did not pass the inspections today. His team had touched one of those "don't even think about touching that" area. Gordon, who is the leader in points was not the only car to fail inspections today. #48 Jimmy Johnson, who is currently 3rd in points. Neither driver will be practicing today. They will find out soon if they will be allowed to practice tomorrow. They will be starting this race at 42nd and 43rd. Penalties will be placed upon these teams Monday or Tuesday. All I got to say is go Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson! Kilo I expect a big thank you.

Fly Fishing and Espresso

This may just work:

DAMASCUS – Richard Rominger is not the average fly fishing guide.
That fact is evident as soon as you enter his cozy operation on South Shady Avenue.
Instead of taxidermy and other signs of tradition, the vibe inside Trails Crossing includes photos of reggae culture icon Bob Marley, soothing music with a message and videos promoting the next wave of hardcore outdoors adventure.
Then there is the Espresso bar managed by Richard’s wife, Liz.
"I want my shop to be hip and cool,’’ Rominger said. "I witnessed the youth-driven growth of the snowboard industry, and the I think fly fishing is heading that way. I don’t want folks coming in and hearing the sound of crickets.’’(LINK)

I don't know about the reggae stuff, but espresso and fishing are both winners.

Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority

The Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority on Thursday approved $16.3 million for development projects in three Southwest Virginia counties.
The money will pay for a variety of projects such as a new technology and data centers, equipment for a wood manufacturing company, and development of a multi-use industrial park, according to a news release.(LINK)

Thats right, we use dollars to buy equipment for a company if they locate here. More "new technology and data centers" that wont be used. In fact Wise just lost the state incentive package because our technology park remains empty...

WISE — Use it or lose it.
That’s the state’s approach to designating “enterprise zones” for business development, like the one awarded to the Lonesome Pine Business and Technology Park seven years ago.
If no businesses take advantage of the incentives for five years, the enterprise zone designation is terminated.
No local businesses have ever chosen to take advantage of the job creation grants and income tax credits available through enterprise zone status. So, in early June, the county lost its designation.(LINK)

A 10th Grader's View

It was the great transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson who wrote the words, "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines."

Now this line may strike you as foolish, but look closely at Emerson’s words: Consistency, (meaning "firmness of constitution or character") is usually thought of as a good thing. However, consistency in the wrong thing is by no means good.

Saddam Hussein was consistent – by murdering countless numbers of his own people. Hilter was consistent. Stalin was consistent.

Likewise, in our culture, there are some consistencies that must be changed. Perhaps one of the least obvious consistencies is church attendance. I know many people who go to church – for no reason other than to look good in front of their peers. Our society focuses so much on outward appearance, that what’s on the inside seems unimportant.

But I Samuel 16 says, "Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." Foolish consistencies make for foolish lives.

We shouldn’t worry about our outward appearance; only fools do that! We should look instead at our hearts. Or in the words of another great writer, Dr. Seuss: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter; and those who matter don’t mind."

Duncan Hunter - 1998

In 1998 Duncan Hunter gave this speech on the House Floor.

Let us talk about personnel shortages that we have today. The United States Air Force is going to be short almost 800 pilots, a little over 700 pilots for this fiscal year that is coming up. Now, when you train a pilot, you put several million dollars minimum into his training, so we are losing not only those good people and all that experience but we are also losing the money that we put into their training.
In the Navy we are going to be short 18,000 sailors and 1,400 recruits in this fiscal year. That means that when a guy comes back from a 3 or 4 or 5-month deployment, we have to send him out immediately to another deployment because there is nobody there to rotate with him, to fill his shoes and to give him a little family time.
Marine aviators have been traditionally our most loyal people with respect to re-upping, taking that next jump of 5 or 6 years or 4 years in the service and opting to do that instead of being in the private sector, and yet our Marine aviators are now leaving the service at a rate of 92 percent.
Even the Army, which has a limited air power but also has, obviously, a very large helicopter force attending its ground forces, is going to be 140 Apache pilots short in 1999. Now those Apache pilots you saw on CNN when they were doing such a great job on Saddam Hussein's tanks during Desert Storm. Those are the pilots that we will be lacking in this next year.
Now I talked a little bit about mission capable rates with the Speaker, and once again here are the mission capable rates, and this is a chart that shows how they are going downhill very quickly.
Mission capable is kind of like the Speaker described it. If you send out 10 aircraft or you have 10 aircraft on the line, how many of them can actually fly out and do their mission? Just like having four or five combines on your farm, and it is time to harvest the wheat, and the first thing you ask your foreman is how many of the combines are working. It may not be all the combines are working; maybe only half of them are working.
Well, we have gone from a mission capable rate that, for example, for the Air Force was 83.4 percent in 1991; that is when George Bush led us in Desert Storm; to today to about 74 percent. We have gone with the Marine Corps from 77 percent to about 61 percent, and with the Navy from 69 percent, almost 70 percent, to 61 percent. That means 6 out of 10 aircraft are able to actually get off the ground and perform their missions.
That is a good example of our declining readiness rates, and that means we have a lack of spare parts and we do not have enough components and enough people in some cases. That means mechanics and the people, the high-tech people that make these very complex weapons systems work, not enough people in the pipeline, not enough people on-station at that particular base to take care of those problems.
Let us go to equipment shortages.
We had almost a 600-ship Navy when Ronald Reagan left office. Today we are down to about 330 ships. We actually had about 546 ships in 1991. Today we are down to about 330. But we are losing a lot of those ships, we are retiring a lot of them. A lot of them are getting older, and, as you know, it takes a long time to build a ship. In fact, it was remarked the other day by one of our assistant secretaries for shipbuilding that actually when we started World War II, all the keels for the battleships had already been laid, meaning we had actually started to build these battleships knowing that there might be a problem. When FDR knew we would probably have a conflict with Adolf Hitler, he started a pretty good shipbuilding program in the late 1930's, and those ships got completed and got put to sea during World War II in the 1940s.

Duncan's vision was clear then. His vision is clear now. That is why he has my support.

Lets Resurface that Wall Building Idea-Together

As you are all aware, NASCAR is a big deal here at Spark It Up HQ. Bristol is in our backyard and Kilo has killed off many braincells there I'm sure. He is keeping me and his readers updated on the resurfacing that is taking place there in between races this year.

When we are not talking racin', or what is growing and needs attention in the garden, Duncan Hunter is certainly one of the next topics of discussion. ( Yes, Ladies I do live a charmed life!) Here is my take on putting those three ideas together.

Kilo showed me the photos of the changes on the Bristol race track. My first comment was " Wow, if they can do this in 12 weeks just imagine the wall that we could build in that same time!" The racetrack is banked at 38 degrees, the wall is basically up and down. The track is measured to the smallest fractions, who cares if the wall ends up a bit higher then planned. The track must be baby bottom smooth, the wall- who cares if it is rough and chaffs the skin? It is after all meant to deter illegals from coming across the border.

Perhaps we should call upon the Amish to help us out with this wall building task. The women all bake and cook and get ready for a weekend picnic while the men prepare their tools. Everyone who can help shows up at a certain time and they all dig in and do what they can. Insta-barn, or insta-house.

I say women, get those aprons on, grab a few things from that garden. Men locate those tools, practice digging a couple post holes in your backyard- you can always plant trees to appease those greenies who will be complaining that the wall stops some alien beetle or rodent, or that we cut too many trees down to build the wall.
Lets Elect Duncan Hunter
and then have a wall building weekend and create one heck of an American made, Insta-wall. Americans digging in and doing a little something to save the sovereignty of this great nation that is built on the backbone of Americans digging in and doing a little something.

Blogging about Duncan Hunter

From Flanders Fields-
Among the Republican candidates for President, there is one I advise conservatives not to overlook..............I think a candidate with consistent conservative credentials should be given true a thoughtful consideration. I think Duncan Hunter is, in fact, what many of the leading contenders pretend to be - a heartfelt patriotic American with the best interests of America in mind.
I agree. That is why I support Duncan 100%.
From Bloggers4DuncanHunter-
The recent Senate bill that failed was a piece of junk right off the bat. Last year, President Bush SIGNED INTO LAW a bill, authored by Congressman Duncan Hunter, that mandated that the double fence currently bordering southern San Diego County be extended across the whole 845 mile southern border. According to Hunter, the project has supposedly been funded, but only 11 miles has been built. The recently defeated Senate bill had mandated that only 350 miles of the border fence be built.
Now, apparently this new immigration “reform” bill will mandate the full 845 miles, but
as Congressman Hunter recently stated, “The idea that we will have border security only if it is paid for by illegal immigrants is unacceptable.” Hunter is dead-on in expressing outrage that the building of the fence, which is already law, has been tied to passing the Kennedy/Bush/ACLU immigration reform bill.
Nick nails it with this post.

Iraq - A Marines View

So, to put it in perspective, it seems that the American people want us to take over one of the most messed-up countries in the world, then rebuild its police, military, government, industry, etc. from the ground up and change it into a stable democracy in less time than it takes for most Americans to pay off their car loans (we have only been there for five years). A Revolt

James Atticus Bowden raises the question with Virginia's Revolt, Not a Revolution - Yet.
The politicians, both Republican and Democrat, think we are stupid. We aren't. We will show them here at the polls.
Indeed. I hope we are seeing the beginning of a strong conservative movement. I for one am not happy with the leadership and direction of the Republican Party. The primary results show many people agree with that. Voter turnout was high in most cases, and double the norm in some districts. A incumbent was unseated and two others came close to losing. A message was sent and I hope the leaders were listening.

Back from the war......

SWAC Girl has a post up that is a must read. Back from war ... Nate's perspective. A very moving tribute. She writes:
Nate's eyes still laugh. I was worried that war would wear away at the young man I had known since he was a boy and that he would return from Iraq somehow older, somehow wearier, somehow not Nate. And while battle a half-world away can't help but leave an impression on those who serve, and it certainly leaves them wiser, it didn't scar him ...
... because Nate's eyes still laugh.
This is the real deal here. Read it now.

Duncan Hunter on CNN

So, here's a question for Mr. Chertoff. If you're going to have more border enforcement, why do you cut the border fence in half and leave New Mexico and Texas wide open, for people to come in?
And what magic wand are you going to have that's going to turn those people back who think they're going to come in and catch the third amnesty?
And I've looked at the stuff that they've put in the bill. They put in four airplanes. That means you'll have two on the ground; you'll have four airplanes working 2,000 miles of border.
Wolf, that's nothing. And Mr. Chertoff needs to answer a question. He was given a law on October 26 of last year, seven months ago, a mandate by the president of the United States and the U.S. Congress, both houses voting in overwhelming fashion, to build 854 miles of border fence.
And if you ask him today how much he's built, he's built precisely 13 miles of one layer of a double fence, meaning it's going to take him 40 years, at that rate, to build the border face.
Mr. Chertoff is charged with securing the border. And the one thing he's not doing -- he's appearing on lots of talk shows. He is not securing the border.
We need to secure that border. And let me tell you, Wolf. There's no reason not to do it. You just did a major special on the terrorist acts that are taking place around the world. We've got a 2,000-mile open border. And for some reason, this administration does not want to secure that border in a very simple way.~Duncan Hunter on CNN Late Edition.
Duncan Hunter kicked some butt yesterday. The transcript is here, the podcast is here. He has no problem in taking the administration to task. Check it out!

Fathers Day

"When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years." —Mark Twain
Happy Fathers Day! Fathers are important.
Here are some sobering statistics: According to the Center for Disease Control, Department of Justice, Department of Health and Human Services and the Bureau of the Census, the 30 percent of children who live apart from their fathers will account for 63 percent of teen suicides, 70 percent of juveniles in state-operated institutions, 71 percent of high-school dropouts, 75 percent of children in chemical-abuse centers, 80 percent of rapists, 85 percent of youths in prison, 85 percent of children who exhibit behavioral disorders, and 90 percent of homeless and runaway children. In fact, children born to unwed mothers are ten times more likely to live in poverty as children with fathers in the home.
This weeks Patriots Perspective is well worth your time. One more excerpt:

Marriage is the foundation for the family, which in turn, serves as the foundation for society. In 295 BC, Mencius wrote, “The root of the kingdom is in the state. The root of the state is in the family. The root of the family is in the person of its head.”
Broken marriages lead to broken families, which lead to broken societies. The most successful fathering is rooted in a healthy marriage. Thus, to be good fathers, we must first be good husbands.
Dr. Jim Lee, a pastor and director of Living Free ministries, writes that the Christian marriage paradigm is built on a foundation of five principles: First, God is the creator of the marriage relationship; second, heterosexuality is God’s pattern for marriage; third, monogamy is God’s design for marriage; fourth, God’s plan for marriage is for physical and spiritual unity; and fifth, marriage was designed to be permanent.

Now read it all.

Jim Webb calls Iraq Strategy a Hallmark!

Webb, a decorated Marine Corps combat veteran of the Vietnam War, is one of the Senate's staunchest critics of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. But that doesn't stop him from voicing pride in his son's service and unit, the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment.

"What they did has kind of become the hallmark for how to operate out of Anbar province," said Webb, who served as secretary of the Navy under President Reagan and has written fiction and nonfiction about war.LINK
You see, Sen Webb is against the war. He is against the failed strategy. The only thing we have right in Iraq is the actions of the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in which his son is a member. Thanks for clearing that up for us Sen Webb!

James H Jim Webb - It's my gun

H/T - The Ward View.
Ward's post sends you to this article.

Q: Was the gun yours?

A: "It's my gun. But what I said in the [March] press conference is true. I did not give it to Phillip, nor did I ask him to do anything with it."

Q: Will you talk about the question of whether you comply with the District's handgun law?

A: "I don't think we need to discuss that any more."

That speaks for itself. Webb is saying I left my loaded gun unsecured and I don't have to answer as to whether I follow gun laws. Watch this video. At the 1 min 25 sec mark listen close. Jim says since 9/11 the need to defend oneself is important. You mean it was not important before 9/11? Is there a threat here at home Jim? Are you saying the same terrorists we are fighting over there are a threat here? Why Sen Webb are you claiming the right to protect yourself and not standing up for every American's right to do the same?

Vivian Paige - Blogs United

Ms Paige has a great post up on the Blogs United conference. I gather by reading it there is some discourse concerning the get together. I think anyone that attended last years conference can attest to the quality of the seminars and events. I don't know if Josh or Paul will attend this this year. I hope they do. We can share a cigar and catch up on the happenings in our lives. That is the best thing about the conference. We get a chance to meet and learn about each other. The losers are the bloggers who choose not to attend.

Waldo is still lying

Hanger will destroy Cox. That is what matters. You happy democRATS?
You can talk about the SWAC all you want, but the fact is they took a unknown and came very close to beating a incumbent. The big losers are RK and NLS….Their candidates struck out. Why dont you talk about that? LOL!

That is the comment Waldo says I authored. That is a lie. I do agree with the comment but I did not write it. If I had, my name would be on it. I have published many things about Waldo and signed my name happily. Waldo prefers penis was penned and authored by me. I called him out for his attacks on Jerry Kilgore's mother when he made fun of how she looked. I called him out on his Sen Allen accusations. I was the one who challenged him over Sorenson 1&2. Now Waldo claims to be prophetic and will change comment writers names to suit his agenda. Waldo has made this issue personal with his vitriol acts. Waldo has a long post today full of bullshit anyone who has a inkling of computer knowledge knows to be untrue. Why is Waldo lying? One commenter on his blog does shed the truth on the subject saying "
Mr. Jaquith:You probably already know this, but you should be very careful about associating IP addresses with individuals.

Generally speaking, your ISP gives your cable or DSL modem what’s called a “lease” on an IP address. The period of this lease is generally weeks, although it can be as short as an hour, according to the whim of the ISP. When an IP address is released, it goes back into that ISP’s pool of addresses, and is assigned (probably) randomly to the next device who asks for one.

Static IP addresses, which don’t change, are usually more expensive, and are used for when you’re running servers in your basement, which most people don’t do.

Also keep in mind that, if I’m sharing an internet connection by means of a router, everybody who connects via that router will appear to have the same IP address. Everybody at my whole company, for example, and there are thousands of us, appear to the internet to have the same IP address.

Sure Waldo knows this is a fact. I guess he will say I am Hawkins also. He wants to try to smear me. That is his choice. I say it here and now: Waldo is a liar. I look forward to telling him this to his face. To think I would not claim the above comment is absurd. I would claim that in a heartbeat.

The Nov 6 Wise County Line Up

The biggest news is after 20 years Republican Rita Holbrook will not seek reelection as Wise Co Treasurer saying she "feels it is time to let someone else take over." Democratic District Three county Supervisor John Peace will vacate his seat and seek the office, facing Republican newcomer Delores Smith. Peace has a record and Smith is unknown. This race will depend on Rita Holbrook campaigning for her fellow Republican. I think some strong and vocal support from Rita could get Smith elected. That would put a repub back into the Treasurers office and open up the chance for a repub to gain the seat Peace abandons on the BOS. With Peace not running in District 3, Democrats picked retired Big Stone Gap town clerk Joyce Page to face Republican J.H. Rivers of Big Stone Gap. That leaves the BOS looking like this.
District One. Democratic incumbent Fred Luntsford of Appalachia will face GOP challenger Ben Boggs of Pound.
District Two. Democratic incumbent Steve Bates of Wise will face Republican Scott Harvey of Coeburn.
District Four. Democratic incumbent Leland Branham will face Republican Dana Kilgore of Wise.
The GOP has a chance of gaining four BOS seats this year. My outlook is that is doubtful.
Democrats nominated Jack Kennedy to seek another term as Circuit court clerk. He will face Republican Danny G. Mullins. Outlook-Jack is well liked and has done a great job as clerk. His accomplishments are well known and I don't see people voting him out.
Shieriff Ronnie Oakes will face Independent Danny C Mullins from Pound. The Democrats wisely have no candidate. Outlook-Landslide for Oakes.
Republican Commonwealth attorney Ron Elkins, will face no opponent. Heh. The legacy of Chad?

My yard is not your yard....

There was some talk about my backyard on this whacky blog. This is maybe 1/5 of it. You are looking at about one acre. Here is about 1/2 acre..a little more I'm guessing.
Now looking back at HQ. As you can see here, coon hunting and woods are right outside my door. So there you have it Greg, my yard and playground is not like your yard. I can walk a 1/4 to the top of the Birchfield ridge and follow that to Pound, Virginia and never see a house or road. That walk is close to 10 miles. I found this gentleman below on one such journey.

Waldo is a Liar

I just became aware that Waldo has forged ( To fashion or reproduce for fraudulent purposes) my name and linked my website to a comment made on his blog. Waldo admits changing the real authors name to mine. I did not make this comment and in fact have not commented on Waldo's blog in some time. That makes Waldo a liar and a practicer of forgery. I have sent this info and screen shots to the proper people and will meet with them in the morning to discuss the matter.

Happy Birthday to the Army

Since its birth on 14 June 1775—over a year before the Declaration of Independence—the United States Army has played a vital role in the growth and development of our Nation. Soldiers have fought more than 10 wars, from the American Revolution through the Cold War, the Gulf War, to the current War on Terrorism. This 232nd Birthday is a recognition of The Army's history, traditions, and service to the Nation, a Call To Duty, 232 Years of Service to Our Nation.(LINK)

My father was Army, along with three uncles and four great uncles. They all learned principles and responsibilities that they practiced throughout their lives. We have many fighting proudly now to protect our freedom. There are many who will never make it back here, but they will go home.

Just remember this
I’m in a better place
Soldiers live in peace and angels sing amazing grace

So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul is where my momma always prayed that it would go
If you’re reading this
If you’re reading this
I’m already home (READ ALL)
