Open Letter to the Iowa GOP – Choose Wisely, Choose Hunter

Guest Editorial

Alexander J. Madison - December 31, 2007
Dear Iowegians,

Every presidential election season, your state has the opportunity to help shape the election going forward. Unfortunately, too many times, you have selected a dud during the Iowa Caucuses. In 1976, you picked Gerald Ford, proponent of the ERA and abortion rights, over a very conservative Ronald Reagan. In 1980, you chose a very moderate Bush over Reagan. And twice you picked a milquetoast named Bob Dole. Granted, the choices are sometimes between dud and duddier, but this year is different. This year you have a chance to select a rock-ribbed conservative Reaganite to make up for not choosing the original Reaganite when you had the chance. The name is Duncan Hunter.

Congressman Duncan Hunter is a representative from California's 52nd legislative district. Mr. Hunter put his college career on hold to volunteer with the 173rd Airborne Rangers to fight the communists in Vietnam. Like Reagan, Hunter believes that war was not only very winnable, but was indeed a "noble cause". And the killing fields that followed our departure from that conflict are a bold testament to their vision over the head-in-the-sand lack of vision (which continues to this day) from the defeatist democrats and RINOs.

Duncan Hunter also entered office with Reagan in 1981, at the ripe old age of 32. He immediately was able to join the Armed Services Committee in Congress, where he has remained to this day, as former Chairmen, and current Ranking Republican. It was in large part due to Mr. Hunter's efforts, teaming with folks like Jack Kemp and Henry Hyde, that Reagan was able to ramrod our historic military buildup through Congress in the 80s, which revitalized every branch of our Armed Services. Jack Kemp even credits Hunter with being the go-to guy for strong-arming the very controversial 'Star Wars' Strategic Defense Initiative through the House. The results of that persistence and vision is paying off in spades, despite the howls of leftists worldwide, as we today have working missile defense systems either in field, or soon to be fielded; including laser based systems for which Reagan was mercilessly ridiculed by the ignorant 'academics' and the press. Hunter was and is perhaps the staunchest anti-communist to sit in Congress. He was the leader most responsible, aside from Reagan, for stemming the commie-creep in Central America during the 1980s, and his disdain for communism has never ebbed.

Duncan Hunter is the ONLY candidate that realizes what China is up to, both militarily with its rapid armament increases, and economically, with its long term strategy to undermine the United States' industrial base. Hunter is dead set against the 'one-way', idiotic trade deal we have with the Chinese, will put a quick end to further technology transfers to the communist nation, and will build up our own military to the point that a Chinese invasion of Taiwan would be nothing short of a quick suicide mission for communism. All the other candidates tip toe around the issue of China. Hunter plans to step on their throat.

When it comes to the 2nd Amendment, the 10th Amendment, lowering taxes, fighting the ACLU and political correctness, standing firm against the gay agenda, and sweeping out useless bureaucrats and bureaucracies from the federal government, Duncan Hunter is the only choice.

Unlike John McCain and Mitt Romney, Hunter won't find anything in the Constitution to justify supporting a ban on 'assault weapons' or 'cheap handguns'. Hunter has a perfect lifetime record with the NRA and the Gun Owners of America. Both Mitt and McCain are liberals in this arena.

Unlike Fred Thompson, Hunter won't have to lie about previous pro-choice sympathies. Unlike Fred, Hunter has a perfectly consistent record on the life of the unborn, and has sponsored legislation for many, many years to give full constitutional protection to the unborn – legislation that Fred does not support.

Unlike McCain and Thompson, Hunter certainly will not run roughshod over the 1st Amendment for the sake of 'campaign finance reform'. And Hunter will work to ditch the last vestiges of McCain-Feingold-Thompson, if the courts don't do it first.

Unlike Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson, Hunter did not and does not buy into the global warming nonsense in any way, shape or form. The only guarantee we have of avoiding a binding, sovereignty usurping, international treaty on global warming is to place a President in power who does not believe the GW alarmism and does not believe in sovereignty usurping international treaties.

Unlike Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee, Hunter does not have some convoluted explanation for why the socialized medicine experiments in Massachusetts (RomneyCare) and Arkansas (ARKids) are a good thing that deserves replication nationally. Indeed, Hunter wants to get government out of the way and reduce the regulations on health insurance by killing off mandates and regulations.

Unlike Mike Huckabee, Hunter will not be contemplating how to mandate and enforce a nationwide ban on smoking in public places, nor will he be scheming to introduce more arts and music and healthy snacks into the nation's public schools. The NEA, who apparently like Mr. Huckabee, despise Congressman Hunter – a genuine supporter of school choice.

Unlike Rudy Giuliani, Hunter does not have to pretend he is a conservative. A man who sued 26 firearms manufacturers to essentially put them out of business has no business seeking the office of the Presidency on the GOP ticket, unless gun control, abortion rights, gay 'rights', and eminent domain abuse are now part of the GOP platform.

Unlike Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Fred Thompson, John McCain, and Mitt Romney, Hunter does not have to lie through his teeth when it comes to his record on illegal immigration. While it is hilarious to see these guys try to 'Out –Tancredo Tancredo' on the issue, only one guy truly does out-Tancredo the Colorado Congressman. While Duncan Hunter has sponsored or cosponsored 85 bills and amendments to stop illegal immigration in this country dead in its tracks, not one of these others lifted a finger during their careers, and range from bad to worse on the issue. While 'The Road to Des Moines' and last springs citizen revolt led these supposed conservatives to finally see the light – at least in rhetoric, Hunter has been fighting the RINOS and dems on this for 27 years. Hunter wrote the border fence bill (recently defanged by the RINOS), and Hunter is the ONLY one who has vowed to actively deport those currently squatting here illegally.

And finally, Duncan Hunter is the most experienced in warfare, defense systems, foreign policy and the security of our nation. If we are intent on defeating the islamists ASAP- without worrying about offending anyone, keeping terrorists out of our country, and rising to meet the future threats posed by the China-Russia-Iran-Venezuela axis, then we better elect a Reaganite this time around.

If not, we may have to put up with an idiot who thinks we need to close Gitmo and end waterboarding because the world disapproves (Huckabee, McCain), or someone who thinks we just need to be more humble and accommodating on the world stage (Huckabee), or someone who can't figure out that enriching China is a fools errand (Fred, Mitt, McCain), or someone who has no clue about our military needs and capabilities and would not know an IED from an IUD (Rudy, Huckabee, Mitt).

The choice is clearer than it has been since 1980. Don't let history pass you by….again.

Most Sincerely,

Alexander J. Madison

As always, thanks for your support!

Hunter for President! Contribute Here.

Barnie Day for State Corporation Commission

From on High has a great write up on this. Day has the record and experience to fill this position. His credentials are impeccable. He has in fact sat on or is currently on Board of directors of the Virginia Tobacco Commission, the board of directors of Virginia Advanced Study Strategies, a National Math and Science Initiative, board of Directors of the Patrick Henry Community College Foundation, and the board of directors of the Martinsville-Henry County chapter of the American Red Cross. This quote from Barnie day says it all.

"Generally, in the abstract, I believe that an unfettered marketplace is the best arbiter of private transactions between willing individuals. Over the past hundred years or so we, as a society, have collectively decided that our interests are best served by giving some businesses and institutions special status in the marketplace, and, in return, we have empowered the SCC to watch on our behalf these businesses and institutions, largely through the restraint of regulations. I do not have a law degree and do not look at things through a lawyer's set of filters, but rather a consumer's perspective, tempered with appreciation for the vital role stock holders and employees play in our overall well-being. The General Assembly membership may deem that an all-lawyer commission remains the best composition of this agency. I have no qualm if they do. It is a prerogative entrusted to them by our constitution."

I don't think we could have a better man on the State Corporation Commission. We can only hope the powers that be choose Barnie Day.

God Voter Dot Org Endorses Duncan Hunter

Duncan Hunter Accepts GodVoter.org Endorsement

Electing the most qualified candidate as leader is the aspiration of all democratic societies and political systems. Trusting that America will not prove to be an exception, GodVoter.org is pleased to endorse Duncan Hunter for President, for five compelling reasons.

Firstly, a nation at war needs a war-time President. To protect our national interest, America must win in Iraq, Afghanistan and against the rise of Islamic terrorism and Iran. While John McCain's 5 years as a POW in Hanoi proves his valor, Duncan Hunter's 26 years on the House Armed Services Committee, which he chaired, is more directly applicable to leading a nation engaged in a complex, multi-front war.

Secondly, the Hunter candidacy isn't a creation of political strategists. Most of the candidates leading in the polls have discrepancies between their present claims and past record. Some say they changed their minds recently. Others claim lapses in memory. All are stretching their persona and platforms to broaden their appeal, as advised. Duncan Hunter has neither political handlers nor such discrepancies, and is a refreshingly genuine exception to the norm.

Thirdly, Duncan Hunter is a man of action. He wanted secure borders, so he built a double fence along the Mexican border. He wanted to protect life and marriage, so he authored multiple bills to protect them. He wanted to protect the country, so he fought in Vietnam, returned with a Bronze Star, and sent his son to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan. Actions speak louder than words, and Duncan Hunter's actions speak the loudest.

Fourthly, Duncan Hunter is the most dependable person to protect the Judeo-Christian foundation of America. While the other conservative candidates' Supreme Court Justice nominations may be open to speculation and doubts, Duncan Hunter's uncompromised conservative social values record precludes the need for such speculation.

Fifthly, Congressman Hunter's low poll ratings can be reversed fairly quickly. Little can be done about low poll numbers caused by a weak candidacy, which isn't the case with Hunter. Most conservative political commentators rave about Hunter's presidential qualifications yet remain reluctant to support his candidacy, citing the lack of momentum behind it. A stampeding herd can be redirected by a few at the front stepping out with conviction, and the sudden rise of the Huckabee candidacy has shown how quickly the conservative vote can be redirected. That vote is still largely uncommitted.

Duncan Hunter isn't as suave, funny, telegenic or rich as some of the other candidates. But based on the qualities becoming a President, Duncan Hunter is the most qualified person to lead America for at least the next four years.

In accepting our endorsement, Congressman Hunter highlighted, "Thank you for your endorsement of my campaign based on my qualifications and conservative positions of providing a strong national defense and secure borders. As president I will work to restore opportunity for the American worker. I will bring high paying jobs back to this country by stopping China from cheating on trade. By restoring economic opportunity for the next generation we re-gain the majority position in U.S. politics. Recent world events point to the need for conservatives to choose a nominee who is ready on day one to lead. I am grateful that you have chosen me as that candidate."

Visit GodVoter.org to see their ratings on all 15 candidates, which range from A to F.

Duncan Hunter's Statement on the Assassination of Benazir Bhutto

Hunter Condemns Bhutto Assassination
Washington DC--Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, today condemned the assassination of former Prime Minister of Pakistan .
"This assassination has further destabilized a precarious political situation which could, at some point, affect the stewardship of Pakistans nuclear arsenal, said Hunter. Pakistans future is closely connected to Americas interests. Pakistans continued cooperation in the border region is a key to US operations in Afghanistan and the safeguarding of their nuclear weapons is an extreme concern for the US and its allies.
Former Prime Minister Bhuttos return to Pakistan offered the opportunity for a stable transition of power. This prospect has now ended tragically. There are no easy answers to the current situation. For now the US must remain vigilant and engaged, especially with military to military communications."

Ollie North's Persons of the Year

I happen to be a big Ollie North fan. I have met him personally and listened to him talk about his faith and how that has helped him through many difficult times in his life. Once more I have to agree with his opinion. In this following article he tells who he would put on the cover of Time magazines "Man of the Year" cover.

He writes that: "though Mr. Putin frequently speaks about “making life better” for his people at some point in the future — my honorees are actually doing it in two countries. During 2007, my “Persons of the Year” built more than 575 schools in two countries, opened nearly 500 public health clinics and hospitals, provided clean drinkable water for more than six million people and electricity to about the same number. While most Americans prepared for Christmas by hunting for gifts imported from China, my honorees were hunting for deadly improvised explosive devices (IEDs) imported from Iran."

Read the whole article here. This is the kind of stuff that the American media glosses over everyday and a reminder for me why I do not get Time magazine, even when they want to send it to me free- no thank you.

Virgil Goode - Conservative Spender

This is refreshing!

Virginia's Goode lowest on congressional office expenditures

By DENICE THIBODEAU Register & Bee staff writer

Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Rocky Mount, is not one of Congress’s big spenders - in fact, he generally spends the least of any member of Congress on overall office expenses, and nothing at all on mass mail pieces.

“Federal budget spending is too much overall and Congress members should set an example by not spending too much,” Goode said Friday.(READ ALL)

Great job sir! Virgil does send out mailers, but it is in reply to questions he is asked. “I try to respond to every letter and fax I get,” Goode said. “I just don’t do mass mailings.” That is commendable indeed. The tree huggers should thank him also.

Payday Lending

There are a lot of folks against payday lending. I think that shows how out of touch they are with the real lives of everyday people. Roscoe Reynolds is one of those people. These lenders help many people who have no where else to turn. I have never understood what the problem is ith these lenders.

My friend and fellow ODBA member Alton has two good posts up on this subject. Part One and Part Two. Barnie Day is commenting so click on over and give these posts a look. Good Stuff!

My Ragged Old Flag

I bought a new flag today for Spark It Up HQ. While returning home, I heard this on WMMT. It had been years since my ears were privileged. With the new flag flying proudly I searched and found this video. There are many. Johnny thanks God for all the freedoms we have...even the right to burn the flag. He add's "We also have the right to bear arms. If you try to burn my flag I will shoot you." Indeed. Well worth the time to load and watch.

Benazir Bhutto - No Bullet Wounds?

Mystery shrouds the death of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto. In an explosive revelation, Pakistan's Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz on Friday said that Bhutto did not die of bullet wounds.
Nawaz said that Bhutto died from a head injury. At least seven doctors from the Rawalpindi General Hospital – where the leader was rushed immediately after the attack – say there were no bullet marks on Bhutto's body.
The doctors have submitted a report to the Pakistan government in which they say that no post-mortem was performed on Bhutto’s body and they had not received any instructions to perform one.
“The report says she had head injuries – an irregular patch – and the X-ray doesn’t show any bullet in the head. So it was probably the shrapnel or any other thing has struck her in her said. That damaged her brain, causing it to ooze and her death. The report categorically ssyas there’s no wound other than that,” Nawaz told a Pakistani news channel.(

We will never know the truth.

Tom McLaughlin on Mitt Romney, Duncan Hunter, and the others..A Must Read

This could be the best article I've read about the GOP presidential field. Tom McLaughlin is - "a teacher and columnist who lives in Lovell, Maine. His column is published in Maine and New Hampshire newspapers." His recent article nails the dilemma many conservatives are facing this primary season. He begins with

Time to make up my mind about who I want for president and I’ve narrowed it down to two. Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter drove himself from Manchester to Conway while campaigning in New Hampshire last week. He was doing the best he could with his limited budget and staff. A few days later, former Republican governor Mitt Romney came to Conway with his driver. Two advance men were at The Conway Daily Sun (one of the papers running my column) when I arrived last Saturday morning, twenty minutes early for the interview by the Sun’s editorial board. It’s an example of what it’s like for Hunter as a back-of-the-pack candidate. Romney is among the leaders.
Hunter answers questions with a yes or a no, then explains his position........

If you are a conservative, I urge you to read this post. Tom feels the same way I do. It is time for conservatives to stand up to the GOP and the MSM telling us who can and can not win. We want a solid record. A vision for the future. That man is Duncan Hunter.

"Though Hunter is the most conservative candidate and a good, courageous man as well, would I be wasting my vote for someone who has never risen above the low single digits in opinion polls? Shouldn’t I vote for Romney and help him get by Huckabee, McCain, Giuliani and Thompson who are leading the pack? Maybe, but there’s only one poll that really matters - the one in the voting booth. If I don’t vote for the man I believe would make the best president, wouldn’t I be further corrupting the process? Each of us had to use his brain and his gut to determine whom to vote for. I have. Maybe I’m a sucker the underdog, but I’m voting for Duncan Hunter. I urge you to do the same."

Indeed. We will get what we deserve. Just like Joseph Farah said- "Duncan Hunter is the real deal. Support him now – so we don't have to compromise later."

|

Duncan Hunter for president! - Joseph Farah

World Net News leader and former Tancredo supporter has seen the light! Read his endorsement here. An excerpt-

"Therefore, today I make a new, personal endorsement for the Republican nomination – Duncan Hunter.

I do so with no hesitancy. I do so with great enthusiasm.

In fact, I have previously made it clear just how much admiration and respect I have for Hunter.

He's my guy because on all the major issues facing this country, Hunter is right. And he is a proven leader who gets the job done."

  • Illegal immigration and border security: Duncan Hunter takes a backseat to no one on this issue – not even Tom Tancredo. He took the initiative long ago to protect the citizens of his own San Diego area by building a virtually impenetrable fence that has cut down human trafficking in the area by nearly 100 percent.
  • Threat of Islamo-fascism: Hunter recognizes the gravity of the war in which America finds itself, whether we like it or not. Hunter has a strong military background and would make an effective leader in a conflict that will not go away unless we destroy the enemy.
  • Our cultural meltdown: Hunter rejects the madness of political correctness and multiculturalism that is ripping America apart at the seams. He is a man of God who will stand for what is morally right no matter the consequences.
  • The economy: Duncan Hunter will fight the mindless globalization that is destroying jobs in America and transferring them abroad – bringing in return cheap goods that are often unsafe and little more than junk. He will also cut taxes and revamp the unfair and highly intrusive tax system – both of which will stimulate the American economy.
  • Matters of life and death: Hunter is steadfastly and consistently pro-life – at both ends of the life spectrum.

"There is much more to say about his excellent record and his fearless championing of all that is good and decent about America.

The point is this: We don't have to settle for less. We don't have to settle for an imitation of the real thing. We don't have to settle for someone who is right most of the time.

Duncan Hunter is the real deal.

Support him now – so we don't have to compromise later."

Indeed. We have Ann Coulter and Mike Reagan talking about Duncan Hunter daily. Farah's last line sums it up for me. I will not not compromise on the candidate this time. I support the man with this best record and that is Duncan Hunter. The GOP can pander to me all they want, but it falls on deaf ears. I am tired of being betrayed by RINO candidates with no record. I am mad. I have been betrayed the last time and I am not alone.

The Modern Conservative is saying he will run as a Constitution Party candidate.

Anyone surprised? I'm not. He abandoned the GOP before to run. With reports of Paul being funded by Soros...it makes sense. Bill Clinton had Perot.  Will Hillary have Ron Paul? Indeed.

Virginia Coal Mining Fatalities

I wish they had waited to print this.

BIG STONE GAP, Va. – Virginia’s coal industry is close to celebrating another year with zero fatalities in the state’s coal mines.

If all goes well for the remaining days of 2007, Virginia, ranked 10th in the nation in terms of coal mining production, will celebrate three consecutive years without a fatal injury in its coal mines. (LINK)

That is great news, yet coal miners know it is only a matter of time. The last fatality was on Oct. 23, 2004. The last roof fall fatality was in 2001. The clock is ticking.......

Ron Paul Loves Amnesty

Via the Free Republic we see Ron Paul's record. I will say it again - Ron Paul weakens America and his voting record proves it. Get ready to read comments! I am sure his voting record is "taken out of context" or it is a "neocon conspiracy"....Read the facts.

Paul’s Immigration Voting Record & Report Card on the NumbersUSA website:

(1) Paul consistently voted every year since 1999 against putting the military on the border:

2006: H. Amdt. 206 to H.R. 1815 2004: Goode Amendment to H.R. 4200 2003: Goode Amendment to H.R. 1588 2002: H. Amdt. 479 to H.R. 4546 2001: Traficant amendment to HR 2586 2000: Traficant amendment to H.R.4205 1999: Trafficant Amendment to H.R. 1401.

(2) Paul voted in 1997, 2001( H.R. 1885) and 2002 (H RES 365) to grant, extend or continue Section 245-i amnesties for illegal aliens.

(3) Paul voted NO on extending the voluntary Basic Pilot Workplace Verification Program (H.R. 2359),

(4) Paul voted NO on the border fence in 2005 (Hunter Amendment to HR 4437 - “Enforcement Only” Bill).

(5) Paul voted YES to increase H2-B (HR 763 in 2005) and H-1B visas (HR 3736 in 1998). In 1998, he voted to allow US firms to lay off Americans to replace them with foreigners.
TAKE NOTE:

(2) Paul voted in 1997, 2001( H.R. 1885) and 2002 (H RES 365) to grant, extend or continue Section 245-i amnesties for illegal aliens.

Everyone needs a reminder of some of Pauls BAD immigration votes.

Especially Item #2. This was an amnesty and allowed for chain migration, more visas, blah, blah, and one reason it has gotten as bad as it has. It was pushed by the White House.

H.R.3525 Title: To enhance the border security of the United States, and for other purposes. (introduced 12/19/2001) Related Bills: H.RES.365, H.R.1885, H.R.3205, S.CON.RES.106, S.1618, S.1749 Latest Major Action: Became Public Law No: 107-173 [GPO: Text, PDF] Note: On 3/12/2002, H.Res. 365 was agreed to by the House. H.Res. 365 incorporated the text of H.R. 3525, the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act, in H.R. 1885, previously the Section 245(i) Extension Act dealing with certain immigration petition filing deadlines. Subsequent action on border security returned to H.R. 3525.

http://www.congress.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d107:HR03525:

The White House [snip]

H.R. 1885 - Section 245(i) Extension Act The Administration strongly supports House passage of H.R.1885 as expected to be considered on the House floor. H.R. 1885 would extend the window created under section 245(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act during which qualified immigrants may obtain legal residence in the United States without being forced to first leave the country and their families for as long as several years. This legislation reflects the Administration’s philosophy that government policies should recognize the importance of families and help to strengthen them.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/legislative/sap/107-2/HR1885-h.html

also:

Rep. Paul is a cosponsor of H.R. 793, the Save Our Small and Seasonal Business Act of 2005, to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to limit the timing of issuance of H-2B visas during a fiscal year. Specifically, H.R. 793 would split the H-2B visa cap so no more than 33,000 visas are made available for the first six months the fiscal year, and another 33,000 visas would be available in the second half of the year. However, H.R. 793 exempts from the annual cap aliens granted an H-2B visa within three years prior to approval of an H-2B petition, thus potentially TRIPLING the number of H-2B workers in the United States at any one time. Although timing the issuance of H-2B visas is a common-sense approach that would help prevent the situation that occurred in FY 2004 and FY 2005 when the 66,000 annual cap on H-2B (low-skill) nonimmigrant visas was hit within the first quarter of the year, H.R. 793 would ultimately harm American workers by creating exemptions which potentially could triple the number of H-2B workers in the U.S. at any given time. Nearly doubled H-1B foreign high-tech workers in 1998

and

Voted on House floor against Hunter amendment to increase security with border fence in 2005 Rep. Paul voted against the Hunter Amendment to H.R. 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005. The Hunter Amendment would shore up security by building fences and other physical infrastructure to keep out illegal aliens. Specifically, it mandates the construction of specific security fencing, including lights and cameras, along the Southwest border for the purposes of gaining operational control of the border. As well, it includes a requirement for the Secretary of Homeland Security to conduct a study on the use of physical barriers along the Northern border. The Hunter Amendment passed by a vote of 260-159.

Hillary Clinton - Are You Experienced?

Four whole pages dedicated to the Hillary and what she has done. Her accomplishments could be covered in a sentence.

As first lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton jawboned the president of Uzbekistan to leave his car and shake hands with people. She argued with the Czech prime minister about democracy. She cajoled Catholic and Protestant women to talk to one another in Northern Ireland. She traveled to 79 countries in total, little of it leisure; one meeting with mutilated Rwandan refugees so unsettled her that she threw up afterward.

But during those two terms in the White House, Clinton did not hold a security clearance. She did not attend National Security Council meetings. She was not given a copy of the president's daily intelligence briefing. She did not assert herself on the crises in Somalia, Haiti or Rwanda. And during one of President Bill Clinton's major tests on terrorism, whether to bomb Afghanistan and Sudan in 1998, Clinton was barely speaking to her husband, let alone advising him, as the Lewinsky scandal dragged on.(LINK)

Sen Clinton touts her record everyday according to the article. What record? Her failed attempts at a health care program? It is good to see the press calling her out on it.

To be fair, there are others running for the POTUS that also have lackluster records in the senate. Obama who? McCain has some legislation leadership experience, but I did not care for some of it - McCain/Feingold. Fred Thompson? Well he did strongly support McCain and his efforts. When weighed and measured they all fall short on any accomplishments.

God forbid we would bring up military experience. The left and right are both silent on that issue with the exceptions of Duncan Hunter and John McCain. Was that issue not a hot topic during Bush/Kerry and here in Virginia during Allen/Webb? You don't hear the left hollering Chicken Hawk now do ya. That very important factor has been abandoned it seems. CONvenient indeed.

As far as I can see, none of the victims had chance. They were unarmed, following the senseless gun free zone laws.

1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

2(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

5To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

That is my favorite traditional carol. Merry Christmas.

1981...watching TV on a Christmas Eve. A message from our President. A message full of symbolism and imagery. A message of hope,, joy, and celebration all stemming from the birth of a child in a manger, in Bethlehem 2000 years ago.

That birth is still causing Ripples.

The Carnival of Christmas 2007

My fellow ODBA member and Blog Sister Kat has the Carnival of Christmas online. It has never looked better...Purrrrrrrfect of course! I am a little partial to the loving blog sister!

Wise Girl's post is below. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas Eve.

Do You Hear What I Hear?

When the red and green tinsel shows on the horizon, and children begin to smile more and misbehave less there most certainly will be Christmas Carols covering the airwaves. A true carol is based upon Christian lyrics and generally relate in some way to the Nativity. It is said that the first carols were introduced to the church by St. Francis of Assisi in the 12 Th century. Later, the staunch Protestant Oliver Cromwell banned many of the Christmas carols that had joyous themes and those have been lost forever. Fortunately, other writers of Christmas carols were raised up and today we can enjoy them not only in a church setting but in our cars, at the mall, and sometimes we still get to hear them at Christmas concerts- but that is only in brave schools willing to be less "politically correct".

We are all very familiar with the first verses of these carols but this week I took the time to read through them. If we would only pay attention to the words we mumble along with as we mindlessly sing this songs I believe lives would be changed. Here are some examples of later verses of songs you know by heart.
1. Be near me, Lord Jesus,
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me I pray

Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care
And take us to heaven
To live with Thee there.

2. Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

3. O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
Be born to us today
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord Emmanuel.

4. No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

5. Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

How sad that even with so many wonderful reminders of the real reason behind Christmas we can get lost in the shiny wrapping paper and bows, the gifts and the "I gotta have it" woes. No other birthday celebration cause the fuss and the contention that this one does. There are no huge debates over how Kilo's birthday should be celebrated. OK , let me rephrase that one, there are no huge debates on national tv about how Kilo's birthday should be celebrated or if it should be called a sparkle season, or snowflake holiday. Nope, only one small child holds such power to bring men to their knees or to arms over him. All I have to say is, Thank You Jesus, oh and Happy Birthday!

Just in case you thought you knew but were not sure:
1. Away in the Manger(Kilo's Favorite), 2. Hark the Herald Angels Sing, 3. Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, 4.Joy to the World, 5. O Holy Night.

Carl and I wish all of you a very blessed Christmas.

Ron Paul - Insane Part Two

Ron Paul was on Meet the Press. This from the National Ledger.

Paul was forced to say that he would vote against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 if it were brought up for a vote again today. It was pointed out that he deemed Ronald Reagan "a dramatic failure." And his answer on the Civil War was mind blowing. He said that Abraham Lincoln made a mistake by going to war to free the slaves and his plan would have been to "buy the slaves and free them."

Then the reason for his support became clear...

Russert slammed Paul on decriminalizing drug use. He pointed out that in the past Paul had said, "All drugs should be decriminalized. Drugs should be distributed by any adult to other adults. There should be no controls on production, supply or purchase for adults."

Yessir...He is a nut.

It Was Foretold

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Isaiah 9:6-7

Porn Tycoon Larry Flynt to out Three Republicans - Speculate now.....

Vanity Fair has the story here. Many will say Flynt is blowing wind about this, but I am not so sure. Flynt has always made waves and he is not afraid to put the money up for the info. I think he is a degenerate scumbag, but I never underestimate him. Here is a piece of the story. Underlined for emphasis.

We’re getting about all the heads we can put over the mantel now,” Flynt tells me. In June of last year, he placed yet another ad in The Washington Post, again offering up to $1 million for evidence of “illicit sexual or intimate relations” with politicians and other officials; he claims the proposition has borne much fruit. Over the summer, when he began talking to me for this article, he dropped three A-list names—a Republican presidential candidate, a well-known Republican senator, and another prominent conservative official—whose peccadilloes he claimed Hustler was on the verge of exposing, hinting at hooker parties and no-tell-motel liaisons. When we sit down in the fall, these names are off the table, though investigations are said to be ongoing. The ripest target now, Flynt claims, is a closeted gay Republican senator who is not Larry Craig, though last spring Flynt’s investigators were also pursuing rumors about Craig, going as far as putting a surveillance team on him, before his arrest in June for allegedly soliciting sex in a men’s room at the Minneapolis airport.

“The other shoe’s going to drop any day,” Flynt says, speaking of the other senator. “It’ll surprise a lot of people that he’s gay. And I’ll bet you he resigns the same day and rides off into the sunset. He won’t be as stupid as Craig,” who after an initial vow to leave office changed his mind and instead fought to reverse his guilty plea to disorderly conduct.

Let the speculation begin! He says he has the dirt on a GOP presidential candidate. Which one? He also offers this tidbit in the five page Vanity Fair article. Flynt says:

“Let me ask you something,” he says in a voice that might best be described as a slurred croak. “As mayor of New York, would you live in an apartment with three gay guys?” Flynt’s facts aren’t entirely in order, but his train of thought won’t be derailed. “I’m not gay,” he continues. “I don’t hate gays. But I don’t want to live in an apartment full of them. They’ll bitch and cry and all. That doesn’t bother Giuliani. It doesn’t bother Giuliani to put a dress on to do Saturday Night Live. I don’t trust him. I don’t think he’s electable.”

Um, I ask, what exactly is he trying to suggest? That Giuliani, famous for his three marriages—to women—and for his taxpayer-subsidized philandering, is in fact one of the political world’s most successfully closeted homosexuals? “I don’t know whether he’s gay or not,” Flynt replies with a hint of exasperation, “but I’m saying, if you got four friends, all gay, living in the same apartment, how are you going to know which one’s gay? I’m surprised no one’s even asking that question. Why do you break up with your wife and move in with gay guys?”

I hope this is all Flynt blowing smoke. Can we be sure after the men's room Craig, Larry McDonald and David Vitter ordeals? Flynt is as dirty as they come. He hates moralists and hypocrites. He proudly published nude photos of first lady Jackie Kennedy. He published a story that linked JFK and the death of Marilyn Monroe. This guy loves the spotlight.

This is very disheartening stuff for conservatives. On the one hand I despise Flynt for digging into this. On the other hand I also despise two faced politicians pretending to be something they are not. This behavior is killing our party.

Ron Paul - Insane

If true, this is classic and shows exactly how dangerous a man like Ron Paul is. The video is not up yet but the Freepers are all over this. Here ya go: A quote from Ron Paul's speech at Politics and Eggs breakfast airing on C-Span now (actual comments aired appx 9:25 pm EST):

"A president has a responsibility to, uh, you know, retaliate against an attack. I don't think there's been a good example of a need to do that throughout our whole history."

If this proves to be untrue I will retract the post. I believe the poster of the quote for this reason - Not one Ron Paul supporter is claiming the post is untrue.

Here is the video. The quote is in perfect context and Ron Paul is a nut.

FORMER NEW HAMPSHIRE SENATOR BOB SMITH ENDORSES DUNCAN HUNTER FOR PRESIDENT

Sen Bob Smith is a giant in the conservative movement in New Hampshire. He served them well for many years and was the most conservative senator in north east. He worked with Duncan on many issues in congress. He also served with old Fred Thompson....But Duncan Hunter gets the conservative icons endorsement. Check it out!

"Hunter is the Inspirational Leader America Needs"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 21, 2007

CONTACT: Gary Becks (619) 334-1655, dlhunter08@yahoo.com

Tuftonboro, NH–Former Senator Bob Smith, a staple of the New Hampshire Republican conservative movement, today endorsed Congressman Duncan Hunter for President of the United States.  Describing him has an "inspirational leader" and the one best qualified to carry the "Reagan Torch," Senator Smith sent a letter to his fellow conservatives throughout New Hampshire making them aware of his support, a copy of which is provided.

Smith was initially elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from 1985-1990, before being elected to the U.S. Senate where he served until 2003. During his congressional tenure, Senator Smith established himself as a strong Republican and the most conservative leader in the Northeast.

"I am honored and privileged today to receive the endorsement of my good friend Senator Bob Smith of New Hampshire," stated Hunter. "For many years, we have worked together to bring conservative values to Washington D.C. On several issues, including building America's military, the sanctity of human life, and protecting American's 2nd Amendment rights, Senator Smith has led with conviction and principle. It means a great deal to have the confidence of a leader who has done so much for our nation."

Senator Smith's endorsement letter follows:

Dear New Hampshire Friends:

After spending several weeks listening to all of the candidates, I have decided to support Congressman Duncan Hunter for President. I do not take this decision lightly. There are a lot of fine men running for this office and I know that many of you may have already made your choice. Your vote in the "First in the Nation Primary" is a very precious and personal right. Your decision will likely determine who will be the next leader of the free world. What an awesome responsibility! I only ask that you give serious consideration to the points that I make in this letter of endorsement for Congressman Hunter before you vote.

The Republican Party, but more importantly our nation, needs strong conservative and inspirational leadership as we continue to face the threats to our liberty  in the form  of immorality,  corruption,  terrorism, a mountain of debt, border insecurity, loss of jobs and attempts to weaken our national defense. Here is why Duncan Hunter is that leader!

I am sure that you are aware that I fought the battle for the conservative cause in New Hampshire for over 20 years. It was not an easy battle. Conservatives pay a heavy price for standing up for their principles. I can speak from personal experience on that. The Republican Party has lost its majority in Congress because it slowly and steadily has walked away from the "core values" that have made it a great party for the past 150 years in America. Remember Ronald Reagan? Liberals and moderates worked hard to defeat him in the New Hampshire primary in 1980 but he prevailed in spite of them! He will be remembered as one of our greatest Presidents because he stood on principle, but also because we conservatives in New Hampshire gave him the victory that propelled him to the White House! When President Reagan came into the oval office in the morning, he knew exactly where he wanted to take the country. He did not need an inbox full of directions, consultants, polls or focus groups to tell him what his core values were. There will never be another Ronald Reagan but fellow Californian Duncan Hunter can pick up the Reagan torch and light the way for America to come back from the dangers we now face. Congressman Hunter is a moral man, an inspirational leader and a no nonsense conservative who will always put "principle above politics" in the image of the late great New Hampshire patriot Meldrim Thomson.

I had the enormous privilege to serve with Congressman Hunter for 18 years in Congress. He has been my personal friend for nearly 25 years. I can personally attest that he is a man of impeccable moral and family values, a great patriot and a leader. I have seen him fight even when others were prepared to give up. Congressman Hunter inspired me and many other young conservatives in the 1980s to continue the fight even when it was bleak. This has not been an easy campaign for Congressman Hunter. While he has been out on the campaign trail his son has been serving in Iraq and the Hunters lost their entire home in the recent fires in Southern California. He has been largely ignored by the pollsters and the media. I urge the people of New Hampshire to send a message to the pollsters and the Washington media elite. The people elect a President not the pollsters! You have the opportunity to do for the nation what you did when you elected President Reagan in 1980 by sending Duncan Hunter out of New Hampshire with a big win and on to the White House in January of 2009! Can you imagine listening to CNN and all of the talking heads trying to explain how they were wrong as Hunter claimed victory?  Wouldn't that be worth the price of admission? You can make it happen with your vote in January!  Do not be intimidated by these spinmasters. You control the destiny of America and not them!

The American people need to take control of this country. We are a republic, not a democracy. We elect leaders to stand up for us as they make decisions. Duncan Hunter has proven that he can lead. He has been tested.  If given the chance as President, he will inspire people, young and old, to rally to our nation in this time of need. Congressman Duncan Hunter for 25 years has stood up for the rights of the unborn, to balance the budget,  to cut the pork out of the spending bills, to strengthen our national defense by supporting our troops and providing them the weapons they need, to seal off our borders by building a fence along the US/Mexican  border and  to keep American jobs in America. He is a known entity. You do not have to guess about what he might do on these critical threats to our security.  Imagine President Duncan Hunter leading our nation and using the "bully pulpit" to lead on these issues! I am proud to support this great American patriot for President. If you really want to see change, then I urge you to vote for him. He is what American needs now more than ever!  Thank you!

Senator Bob Smith

The ODBA Welcomes The Smyth County Conservative

I would like to welcome Adam to the ODBA. His blog can be found here. Adam's resume is impressive. A RPV spotlight said this about our newest member.

Adam Tolbert, Smyth County Republican Committee . Adam is a 21-year old senior at the University of Virginia's College at Wise and will graduate in May 2006 with a B.A. in Government. He is a resident of the Saltville area of Smyth County and was recently elected vice-chairman of the Smyth County Republican Committee. Adam has been active in politics and campaigning since 1994 at the young age of 9. Since then he has served in many different capacities including working the polls, door-to-door work, setting up signs, writing letters, assisting local candidates, literature drops, and grassroots operations. In the summer of 2003, Adam had the honor of serving as an intern in the Southwest Virginia office of Senator George Allen in Abingdon. In this capacity he worked on many important issues relating to constituent services for the Senator. In addition to politics, Adam's other interest is computers and technology. In 2004, he established a web site for the Smyth County Republican Committee (www.smythgop. org) which is the first political party web site in Smyth County. The web site has served as an invaluable tool for informing members and citizens about activities of the party and election and voting information. He also advises members on issues relating to technology. For the November 2005 elections, Adam led a door-to-door and grassroots operation in Saltville for the Jerry Kilgore campaign and the GOP ticket. In the past Saltville has had little, if any, grassroots efforts. As a result of this effort, Adam increased the visibility and knowledge of the GOP candidates in and around Saltville. Adam hopes to continue this success in future elections. Most recently, Adam served as a recount observer for Bob McDonnell in Smyth County for the Attorney General Election recount.

WE ARE THE ODBA. We get stronger with each new member! I look forward to working with Adam and wish him continued success in life.

A tall tree and a short rope

I hate reading reports like this.

TORONTO — A Canadian man who sexually abused his 4-year-old daughter live on the Internet so another man could watch was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.

Four years? A young girl damaged for life and he gets four years. This is the world we live in. Madness indeed.

Ann Coulter on Hannity and Colmes - Predictions

The wonderful Ann Coulter made predictions on H/C tonight. For the DemocRats it will be Sen Clinton. The GOP will nominate Mitt Romney.

She also says that the only one she could support is DUNCAN HUNTER.

COULTER:: I think it's probably going to be Romney for the Republicans, Hillary for the Democrats.

HANNITY: Alright. Anyone close to Romney?

COULTER:: It's probably between Giuliani and Romney on our side, Romney and Hillary on their side. I think it's probably going to be Hillary and Romney. I couldn't really decide. I don't like any of them except Duncan Hunter. And I couldn't decide. I realized, when you flip a coin when you think it can't decide, and it comes up heads and you think, no, I wanted tails. That's the way I am starting to feel about Romney.

So my fellow conservatives: Why aren't you supporting Duncan Hunter? Why are we settling for candidates whose current rhetoric does not match their records? That is insane.

The other day Duncan said he had already won. Why? Because the current candidates are now saying what Duncan has been saying all along. That's right, the others are morphing into Duncan Hunter in some way or another. Why settle for a group of ticks when the real deal is available? You don't see anyone attacking Duncan's record. He is the real deal.

Make a Conservative Statement and throw Duncan a donation by clicking here. If Duncan gets the money he wins.

Millionaires for Mark Warner

Interesting, but not surprising. Mark Warner's main man Jerome B. Armstrong, the keynote speaker at Sorenson last year - MyDD founder and a partner with Kos likes the game also. At least till he got busted for criminal activity by the U.S. SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION. A funky bunch indeed.

Democrat Spending Bill Harmful to Border Security-Duncan Hunter

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 18, 2007

CONTACT: Gary Becks (619) 334-1655, dlhunter08@yahoo.com

Washington, D.C.–Presidential candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter returned to Washington this morning to immediately begin his efforts to overturn provisions contained in a Democratic spending bill that eliminates current legal requirements for double-layered border fencing.  Congress last year passed legislation authored by Hunter, the Secure Fence Act, mandating double-layered fencing and related infrastructure at strategic entry points along the Southwest border.

"Now is the time when those who take the threat to our nation's borders seriously stand up and be counted," said Hunter. "Last year, Congress successfully passed legislation that mandated a double fence requirement based on the success of the border fence we've built in San Diego. The Democrat majority in this Congress has taken it upon themselves to overturn federal law to pursue a policy that does nothing but harm our border enforcement capabilities. This is not leadership, it is irresponsibility.

"Border enforcement is too serious of an issue to pursue only when politically convenient at election time. If Congress is to reverse its border stance after just one year, what message does that send to illegal immigrants and drug smugglers who are watching to see how serious we are about protecting America's borders? I believe we must uphold our nation's immigration laws, support our agents serving on the border and protect our border communities and I am going to make every effort to overturn the damage this Democrat leadership has caused."

H.R. 2764, a bill that provides funding for several federal departments and agencies, was brought to the House floor and passed late last evening by the Democratic leadership. Not only does the bill contain provisions removing all specific locations as outlined by the Secure Fence Act, it also removes all requirements to construct any fencing or physical barriers along the border. This action basically repeals the Secure Fence Act and undermines past efforts to secure our nation's border.

H.R. 2764 has been referred to the Senate for consideration and then will be returning to the House with any changes in the form of a conference report. Congressman Hunter is working with his colleagues in both the House and Senate to ensure that these dangerous provisions do not remain in the final version of the funding bill.
