Spark It Up!!!: The ODBA Welcomes The Smyth County Conservative

Adam Tolbert, Smyth County Republican Committee . Adam is a 21-year old senior at the University of Virginia's College at Wise and will graduate in May 2006 with a B.A. in Government. He is a resident of the Saltville area of Smyth County and was recently elected vice-chairman of the Smyth County Republican Committee. Adam has been active in politics and campaigning since 1994 at the young age of 9. Since then he has served in many different capacities including working the polls, door-to-door work, setting up signs, writing letters, assisting local candidates, literature drops, and grassroots operations. In the summer of 2003, Adam had the honor of serving as an intern in the Southwest Virginia office of Senator George Allen in Abingdon. In this capacity he worked on many important issues relating to constituent services for the Senator. In addition to politics, Adam's other interest is computers and technology. In 2004, he established a web site for the Smyth County Republican Committee (www.smythgop. org) which is the first political party web site in Smyth County. The web site has served as an invaluable tool for informing members and citizens about activities of the party and election and voting information. He also advises members on issues relating to technology. For the November 2005 elections, Adam led a door-to-door and grassroots operation in Saltville for the Jerry Kilgore campaign and the GOP ticket. In the past Saltville has had little, if any, grassroots efforts. As a result of this effort, Adam increased the visibility and knowledge of the GOP candidates in and around Saltville. Adam hopes to continue this success in future elections. Most recently, Adam served as a recount observer for Bob McDonnell in Smyth County for the Attorney General Election recount.
