Virginia Politics-More on "the Bone"

I posted this rant last week. It seems Jerry From On High has some thoughts about it here

Thanks Jerry!

Bush Picks Alito for Supreme Court

  • WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush, stung by the rejection of his first choice, nominated longtime judge Samuel Alito Monday in a bid to reshape the Supreme Court and mollify his conservative allies. Democrats said that Alito may be "too radical for the American people."

"Judge Alito has served with distinction on that court for 15 years, and now has more prior judicial experience than any Supreme Court nominee in more than 70 years," Bush said, drawing an unspoken contrast to his first choice, Harriet Miers. Read All

Thats what I want to hear. Now we have a known conservative up for the seat. This should be an interesting battle. I like this pick Mr. President!

Chad has a complete profile of Samuel Alito here.
"
But I’m very pleased with this pick. Alito has been vetted, and he’s a solid conservative."
UPDATE: the Confirm Alito Coalition has been formed

Virginia Politics-Endorsements

The big story for some seems to be the endorsements of newspapers. I really have never paid much attention to them before now. So let me get this in perspective. The opinion of an editor or panel says I should vote for this candidate. Yep, that is about it. I feel confident in that for sure. Trust what the old MSM thinks I should do. I have never been at the polls thinking “I wonder who the Times endorsed.” I did enjoy today’s letters to the editor page in the BHC. By my count Kilgore supporters outnumbered the others by far. The BHC may have endorsed Kaine, but the response of the readership applauded Kilgore. To think a newspaper endorsement can change minds is absurd.

I believe I am not alone when I say--I could care less who the papers endorse. Why would anyone care? Amazing!

Virginia Politics-Another reason to Vote For Jerry Kilgore

Here is another reason to support Jerry Kilgore. The editors of BHC are goof balls to be mild.

Thank You All

I apologize for taking so much time in posting this. I recently went through a traumatic experience. This ordeal has changed me in many ways. In the course of 10 seconds my whole life changed. I rejoice that no one else was involved, but other lives changed too. I ask are accidents really accidents? Did this happen for a reason? Was it because I was bad, or for a future good? This runs through my troubled mind daily. It haunts me. I am blessed beyond belief. This is not the first time I have cheated death. I have spent the majority of my life cheating death. If I keep knocking, death will surely answer. It is time to change, time to smell the roses.

It is my belief that prayers have saved me. A praying mother has kept me alive many times. My family support has been awesome and I am thankful. That support was expected. The support the blogosphere has shown was not. My mom wanted prayers and ya’ll provided that. Your comments and links helped me in so many ways. I am not 100%, but I am a heck of a lot better than 10 days ago. I thank each and every one of you that were directed here from other blogs. Your support touched me deeply. Man, when people you don’t know take the time to comment with prayers and encouragement, I am a lucky man. A special thanks to the ODBA and their support.

Chad and Norm, with their high volume readership really got the word out. Alton….Brother, I thank you. One day soon we will meet. So get ready! I am looking for a job…lol.

R’cat….Fair lady I am still at a loss. Your blog is special as are you. Your love of family shows. Your faith in God is for all to see. You touched me the deepest. You will never know. Much love Sis, and to all you sent my way, God Bless.

The special lady in my life……You know who you are….You continue to bless me with your love. I can only hope this time we see what is real. The future is ours, don’t let it go. I wont.

Virginia Politics-Warner tosses us a bone

I watched the news eagerly last night awaiting the "big announcement" from Gov. Warner. HEH
Artisan Center 'for all of Southwest Virginia' reads the headlines.
  • Gov. Mark Warner wants to get people off Interstate 81 and into the hills of Southwest Virginia to see and buy the region’s arts and crafts. That’s why on Thursday he awarded the town a $3.1 million grant to build the Southwest Virginia Artisan Center.
NOOOO!!! Not this same old crap. Rick Boucher should of came along too and announced that a call center will placed beside the new arts center. Geeesh... We in SWVA got tossed a bone. It will be a failure and most people know this. While they are building the arts center, people here in SWVA do not have drinking water. 2005 and still no running water. This tourism crap helps my area very little. 3.1 million to help people get water, or fix schools would be better. Heck, give us broadband! The surplus of our tax dollars hard at work.
  • The Artisan Center would sit atop a hill that overlooks the interstate and the town, providing a scenic view of Whitetop Mountain in the distance.
Inside, visitors could browse through crafts areas, retail stores and artists’ studios. The center also would have a cafeteria and a tourism center to provide an anticipated 200,000 annual visitors with information on local and regional attractions.
The community college plans to donate the eight acres of land for the center. Construction could begin in the spring and be complete by 2007.

"The community college plans to donate the eight acres of land for the center." I dont like that either. Lets take another couple acres for a "Moonshine Museum." The grants did include a work-force training and marketing program for Smyth and Washington counties priced at $900,000 with the same amount matched by local funds.
As usual, we got tossed a bone, and we here in SWVA will bend over and take it........

KOS smashes Kaine--File under Moonbats Implode

Tip of the hat to OMT.

It seems Kos is slamming Kaine. What? Yes, Thats right.

Cowardice at the Kaine campaign

Thu Oct 27, 2005 at 10:47:22 AM PDT

  • This has me stewing. I hate Democrats scared of their own shadows. And apparently Virginia's Tim Kaine (or those running his campaign) is one of them.

LOL.....What a hoot for ole Kilo to read this. Please read the comments and you will realize why there is no democratic party. I have said before, I did not leave the democratic party...they left me. Read it all here.

|

Virginia Politics-Tim Kaine-If I lie, will you hold it against me?

Yes Tim...I will.
This is unreal. I am a huge Allen fan. He was a great leader and his comments on this ring true.
  • “The Washington Post report today must be disturbing to any person who believes in honest government and who cherishes the Virginia way.

"The fact that Tim Kaine would take a poll to decide whether to keep his word says everything the people of Virginia need to know about his credibility on tax increases, illegal immigration, capital punishment, or other important issues. An elected official's most valuable commodity is the trust of the people.

"If this was an unauthorized action, then Tim Kaine should immediately acknowledge and condemn the inappropriate conduct and discipline the staff persons involved. Unfortunately, the Post report this morning indicates that Mr. Kaine is not stepping up and taking responsibility, but is refusing to confirm or deny the serious charges.

"As disappointing as today's revelations are, at least there is the consolation that the tactics have come to light, not at the last minute when the election calendar leaves no remedy, but far enough in advance for Mr. Kaine to be held accountable. The Governorship of Virginia is a venerated and vital position -- one worthy only of honorable men and women. All Virginians should consider this window on the candidate's character when they vote."
Think about it.

Miers withdraws....

The lady of the Cathouse informs us that Miers has pulled out of the running. She is all over the story. I have remained silent on this. I really feel she was not the best choice. It seems all partys had a problem with her. R'cat had this from James:

  • Let me be clear about something, though: While I am glad this is over, this controversy reflects badly on President Bush, not Harriet Miers. From all indications, Miers is a decent, honorable woman. The fact that she did not meet the incredibly high threshold of being qualified to sit on the Supreme Court is no shame. Unfortunately, the president put her in a position to become the target of public ridicule. She did nothing to deserve that.

Updated

He would not let me show his mouth or eyes. But that is ok! He looks good to us here at home. He could not blog, he could not see the screen. His right hand is kinda stuck in that position. Keep those prayers going. Look how far he has came these past couple days. Thank you all!
Update@9am
He had a bad night. The trauma he sustained is severe. It bothered him that he could not see the computer and he cant use his right hand. His pain was bad last night. He dreamed all night of the wreck. The bottom line is he always has been in control and now he is not. He asked me if he would ever work or drive again. This is very hard for me and the family. Lets see what today holds.
He wants me to read blogs to him for a while. He is shy to post because he feels like he may look foolish. He did comment here.Posted by Picasa

Kilo released---Updated at 12:30

Released? His words not theirs. But anyway, at 8:15am Kilo was "released" (discharged).

This is awesome to say the least. Who would of believed he would be out this quick after such an ordeal. Miracle Man he is! He requested a copy of Robert Frost be waiting in his favourite chair. He also will be able to sit for short periods at his computer. He also said I could take some pictures of him, as long as they did not show his eyes and mouth. He understands it will take time to heal. He will be making daily trips to doctors and I am sure he will be a pain in the rump.I look for him to post today himself. He did ask for help because he knows his shaking will be hard to deal with on a keyboard.

Thank you to everyone for your support. His family knows that the prayers were many. May God bless each of you.

Update: He is home. He is sick. He is a pain in the rump. The trip home wore him out. He vomited a couple times, complained of being cold, refused his pain killers, made us stop to look at a train and talk to the conducter...geesh. Then....his biggest fear took control. MOM.
Meds were taken, and as I type he is snoring up a storm. Before he went out,, He quoted this:

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
D.Thomas
He does not know what day it is, but he hit this word for word.
You gotta love him, and you always bet on him.

Carl was wondering why his head hurt so bad. This picture shows why. The top of the cab is lower than his head. His injurys are on the right side and we can see why. This is truly a miracle that he even has a head to hurt. The chest tube is out and he is convinced he will be home today. Doubtful....But with Carl you never know. Thank you for all the support. He told me he has a announcement to make, a change in life thing. Carl was trapped in the truck awhile and all he could see was smoke. he thought he was dead as he felt no pain and could not hear a sound. This is what he told me. " I was hanging upside down...trying to breathe, a young boy looking to be 8 yrs old or so looked in the window. His eyes were a blue I have never seen before. In them was a peace I cant describe. He was carrying a bag way to big for his size. He told me everything would be ok. I rested" This story is amazing. Has anyone ever heard of such? Posted by Picasa

He is the same old hateful....

Kilo- I have to use the bathroom.

Nurse goodbody-You stay in that bed!!
Kilo-Ok.....mutters something "nazi nurses union"...I dont have to go.
Nurse leaves.
Kilo- let this rail down.
Me-Carl, I cant do that.
Kilo-I will show you how.
Me- Carl, I cant.
Kilo- It is a damn conspiracy. You all are in it together....trying to break me down. It wont work! This time tomorrow I will be at home.

You know...I dont doubt this at all.
I read the comments and Carl is touched by this. He gave me a list of blogs to read, I copy and paste the posts so I can show him. This touched me and I am telling on him.
I read to him Waldo and Wife lost a dog. Kilo said "That Waldo, I dont like him much at all"
He turned his head away and wept.......Thats my Carl.

More on the Kaine death penalty flap

First read this post....
Now

JR over at Bearing Drift has this. In the comments I found this great post:

Keeping in with the Kaine way of thinking, if I drink then it is ok if a drunk driver kills me.

I guess it would be a fairer statement to say it would be justified if the bartender killed me.

"But Squeaky, beer is legal, drugs aren't" might be their response... But, murder is NOT legal.

With the Kaine camp using drug use as a justification for murder I think we can all agree they are feeling the heat!

No one can say Kaine is soft on drug use... He thinks it is ok if drug users are killed.

I am confused... Kaine thinks it is ok to let drug users die, but we can't put murders and even Hitler to death?!?!

Didn't realize Kaine was taking the Flip Flop title from Kerry this year!

What would Tim Kaine do?

This family was murdered. The husband, wife, and little girl were shot by this idiot.
from tricities.com
This morning, investigators are awaiting the autopsy reports of Joseph and Vanessa Evans and their 4 year old daughter, Jaylein ('jay-lynn). They were all found shot and killed in their Smyth County home Sunday evening. Police have charged John Gullion with 3 counts of capital murder.... he may be charged with a fourth murder if the autopsy confirms that Vanessa Evans was pregnant.
This troubles me greatly. Would Tim Kaine fight to keep this fool off death row? Sure he would. Hell, if Hitler did not deserve the death penalty, then this guy is free to live out his life for sure. I thought of this all day after reading the news. The Kilgore ad's that everyone is posting about make you think.

Then there is this diddy from Raising Kaine by Josh.
  • In fact, Stanley is Stanley Rosenbluth, founder of death penalty advocacy group, Virginians United Against Crime. While his son, Richard, and daughter-in-law Rebecca were murdered in 1993, the ads fail to inform viewers that the two were murdered by their cocaine dealer when they apparently ran short of cash. Apparently, both of the Rosenbluths “had traces of cocaine in their body at the time of their death, a fact that is not mentioned in the television ad or more recent accounts of their muder.”
Thats right folks. Raising Kaine feels a young couple with a drug habit (there are not many of those in Virginia) somehow makes it ok?? What?? Read it again. Disgusting. Tim Kaine tried to keep this drug dealing killer from his death sentence. He failed. Justice was served.

I ask again would Tim Kaine fight to keep the idiot above from a just sentence? Sure he would. But to make Raising Kaine happy, there is already talk of drugs....Maybe the little 4 year old girl owed him money...or the unborn child was destined to .......We will never know.
What would Tim Kaine do? I pray we never find out.

Saddam on trial in less than 10 days

Via The Templar Pundit

  • BAGHDAD -- In fewer than 10 days, Saddam Hussein will stand in the especially built courtroom where he will face the families of those he killed.

Some there question even having a trial.

  •  "Why lawyers [and a] trial?" asked Ahmed, a security guard who asked that his full name not be used. "Put Saddam in the streets of Baghdad, all of them in the street, and the people will just shoot him, finished." He made a gun with his hand and pretended to shoot at the ground.

After the debate

First, Thanks to Chad for live blogging the debate. He deserves a big shout out from all of us in the Virginia blogosphere.

What was said to be a easy victory for Kaine turned around tonight. Kilgore pounded Kaine in my opinion. Kaine kept trying to say " I am Mark Warner "....I think Kilgore made progress tonight. The comments are great on Chads blog. Imnotemeril and others kept it lively.

I could not find anyone from the left live blogging. I understand why, as they would not of been happy. Kaines attacks fell short, he looked angry and at times stumped.

I never thought there was a winner in a debate. We see things each in our own way. That is why I wanted live blogging. I am sure the pundits from the left will have full reports later. As of now nothing.

|

Debate

Is anyone LiveBlogging the debate? I would love to see that. Liveblogging from both sides. So come on! Someone blog it! It would be cool to read the first thoughts of pundits from both sides. Imagine Chad or Emeril compared to Waldo or Brian. This would be awesome.

Blow up The Rolling Stones?

From Yahoo News

  •  CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - A Rolling Stones concert at the University of Virginia was halted after 911 operators received a bomb threat specifically targeting the stage area, university officials said. A 45-minute police sweep of the area Thursday found nothing unusual, and the band completed the show without further incident, university spokeswoman Carol Wood said.

The Stones new album is titled " A Bigger Bang "

Looking good

Things are looking good for Jerry Kilgore. Poli Amateur has this post up over at CW.

  • A week ago, I was starting to think the Kaine campaign may break away a little bit heading down the home stretch (based on the poll trends), but now, I think the all important momentum has shifted back to Kilgore as we approach the 1-month mark. If Kilgore can have a solid performance at the debate, this race may become Kilgore's to lose, just as Kaine gets ready to get hammered on the death penalty.

I agree. With the NRA tour and the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce's endorsement. Jerry is looking strong down the home stretch.

Imnotemeril has a good post up about the SWVA accent.

  •  I have also worked all over the world and have experienced the automatic stigma that is attached to someone with a SWVA accent. I have the accent when I am here; I don't (as much) when I am in L.A. I have never had voice lessons in order to lessen the accent. As my Grandfather used to say, "it's a damned poor dog that won't wag it's own tail." But his statement did not take into consideration a sincere politician who really needed to appeal to closed-minded individuals who place so much importance on an accent as you seem to.

Imnotemeril has a great blog so check it out.

|

New Kilgore ad

This ad is great! It is simple and to the point. The big thing is it shows our SWVA sense of humor (and our wonderful accent's). It showcases Jerry's Twin brother Terry and it will bring a smile to your face.

Watch it here.

Chad Dotson likes it too.

What is a Vet?

Some veterans bear visible signs of their service: a missing limb, a jagged scar, a certain look in the eyes. Others may carry the evidence inside them: a pin holding a bone together, a piece of shrapnel -- or perhaps another sort of inner steel: the soul's alloy forged in the refinery of adversity. Except in parades, however, the men and women who have kept America safe wear no badge or emblem.

You can't tell a vet just by looking. What is a vet?

The Vet is the cop on the beat who spent six months in Saudi Arabia sweating two gallons a day making sure the armored personnel carriers didn't run out of fuel.

The Vet may be the bar room loudmouth, dumber than five wooden planks, whose overgrown frat-boy behavior is outweighed a hundred times in the cosmic scales by four hours of exquisite bravery near
the 38th parallel in Korea.

The Vet is the nurse who fought against futility and went to sleep sobbing every night in Da Nang.

The Vet is the former POW who went away one person and came back another - or didn't come back AT ALL.

The Vet is the Quantico drill instructor who maybe never experienced combat -- but saved countless lives by turning slouchy, no-account rednecks and gang members into Marines by teaching them to watch and protect each other's backs.

The Vet is the wheel chair-riding Legionnaire who pins on his ribbons and medals with a prosthetic hand.

The Vet is the career quartermaster who watched the ribbons and medals pass him by but made certain every needed bullet found it way to the front line.

The Vet is one of the three anonymous heroes in The Tomb Of The Unknowns, whose presence at the Arlington National Cemetery must forever preserve the memory of all the anonymous heroes whose
uncommon valor lies unrecognized with them on the battlefield or in the ocean's sunless deep.

The Vet is the old guy bagging groceries at the supermarket -- palsied now and aggravatingly slow --who helped liberate a Nazi death camp and who wishes all day long that his wife was still alive to hold him when the nightmares come.

The Vet is an ordinary and yet an extraordinary human being -- a person who offered some of his life's most vital years in the service of his country, and who sacrificed his ambitions so others would not have to sacrifice theirs.

by Marine Corp chaplain, Father Denis Edward O'Brian

The last paragraph is powerful and so true. We should all be thankful for the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve. The WW2 vets are almost gone. If you meet one, thank him, learn from him. There is nothing I could ever say or do that would show the appreciation they deserve.

Gate City

It seems the mayor of Gate city Mark Jenkins removed a sign with Jerry Kilgores name on it. He soon found out how much support Kilgore has in SWVA. From WCYB:

  • THE TOWN OF GATE CITY VIRGINIA IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A CONTROVERSY.
THE ARGUMENT IS OVER A SIGN.
SOME ARE UPSET THE FORMER ATTORNEY GENERAL`S NAME IS NO LONGER CONNECTED TO THE "WELCOME TO GATE CITY" SIGN.
ON MONDAY THE MAYOR OF GATE CITY PUT IN A WORK ORDER TO REMOVE A SIGN FROM GATE CITY`S WELCOME SIGN.
    MARK JENKINS/ GATE CITY MAYOR:
"i`ve gotta admit, I probably should have gone about it a different route and let the council make a decision."
    DEXTER HARMON/ RESIDENT:
"he represents Scott County and our town of Gate City and it should have stayed I suppose."
THE SIGN WAS PAID FOR THROUGH PRIVATE DONATIONS WHEN KILGORE BECAME ATTORNEY GENERAL NEARLY 4-YEARS AGO.
THE MAYOR SAYS HE WILL HANG IT BACK UP HIMSELF BY SUNDAY AND REIMBURSE THE TOWN FOR THE COSTS OF REMOVING IT.
THE MAYOR WILL LET THE COUNCIL DECIDE THE FATE OF THE SIGN.

Mark Jenkins found out who really runs Gate City....the People! Why would he take it down in the first place? I hope to have pictures of Jenkins hanging the sign back up.
