Cigars and Mason Jars - Arturo Fuente’s Opus X
This was my first Opus X robusto and I was not disappointed. I received this cigar from Cigars Direct. Those of you that know me know that I usually put my sticks in the humidor for at least two months before smoking. Not this time! This cigar is arguably the rarest cigar in the world so I left the stick in the ziplock humie all Cigars arrive in from Cigars Direct for one week and sparked it up.
The construction was flawless. The light and draw was superb. Wood and leather with a hint of spice. I found the spice flavor diminished about half way leaving a warm rich woody-leather flavor that intensified as I smoked. I never had to relight and this one took me 75 mins to smoke. I enjoyed it with a glass of ice water.
I would give this cigar a solid 92 rating. It was one of the best I have ever smoked. The big question - is it worth the CO$T? I would say yes. A man should treat himself sometimes and the Opus X was indeed a treat for me. It would make an awesome Fathers day or Birthday gift and the guys at Cigars Direct can hook you up with this and some other great gift ideas. Check that link out. Boy, they really jack up the prices! My understanding is that Fuente cuts off dealers who do so. Old Virginia Tobacco Company has the best prices I've seen in Virginia --- they sell them for list, when they have them --- and Holt's in Philadelphia is both well-supplied, and reasonable.
Had a Perfexion A --- packed in a coffin --- on the day I won my first Supreme Court case. Bought it in the financial district in San Francisco, and drove to Sacramento. That bad boy lasted the whoooole trip!
