Great news for my friends at Cumberland Resources!
Mine operator Massey Energy says this week's $960 million acquisition of Cumberland Resources will advance its goal of doubling sales of higher-priced coal used to make steel by 2012.
Massey, like other coal producers, has moved aggressively to capitalize on surging demand in Asia for metallurgical coal, with the U.S. and Europe still recovering from the recession.
Massey told analysts Wednesday the company is pushing for 20 million tons of metallurgical sales.
Virginia-based Massey plans to ship 10 million tons this year and says Cumberland should contribute 5 million more within two years.Link

That curious. Two hours, and you cannot get even one environmental wacko to go bonkers on this one. What is the world coming to?
I must say I would rather we were using the coal here to make steel. Oh well, it still helps our balance of trade and employs people.
At about 3 pm today, Rick Boucher voted to allow the health care bill to pass the House without being voted on.
The health care bill, in other words, will simply be "deemed" to have passed (the Slaughter Solution). Boucher and fellow Democrats have basically just voted FOR the health care bill in a way that allows them to say they didn't REALLY vote for health care.
Two other Virginia Representatives, Glen Nye and Tom Periello, voted against "deeming" the bill passed, most likely because they've already said they will vote for the bill, and are trying to gain a bit of cover.
Article 1, Section 7 of the Constitution that “Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it becomes a Law, be presented to the President of the United States.”
I will finally agree that Rick Boucher is what his biggest detractors say -- a slimeball who's only principle is self-preservation. This was truly the act of a gutless weasel.
Make no mistake about it, Rick Boucher just voted FOR health care.
