New Wise County Schools could cost $100 Million
WISE — The Wise County school division projects a total cost for three new high schools to be between $91 million and $100 million — close to previous cost projections to consolidate the existing six aging schools into three modern facilities.(link)
I support consolidation. There is no reason we need six high schools...That time has long passed. I would us caution and do this one school at a time until our new power plant gets online. The plant will provide the revenue to pay for the projects.
My biggest concern is I hope they maintain the new schools better than they did the old ones. JJ Kelly was built in 1953. It was in shambles in 1983. While teacher pay and football fields were built, basic common sense maintenance was ignored. That must never happen again.
