I Agree with the BHC...Will it Snow Today?
The background and story can be found here. The BHC today writes
No justice for the Cross family
If you’re a Tennessee dentist and kill someone, you apparently can buy your way out of prison and even get the crime expunged from your record.
That is the specter facing the family of Wayne Allen Cross, 63, who died two Father’s Days ago from a boat accident caused by dentist Wray West Chaffin II.
Under a “no contest” plea worked out and unveiled in court Thursday, Wray will never have to answer publicly questions about this Boone Lake accident. He might avoid any jail but at worst will get a slap on the wrist.
One question we’d like to ask Wray is, does he seriously expect us to believe that he mistook the fishing pontoon he ran over in his speedboat for a log? That’s what Wray told authorities as the reason why he left the accident scene.
This investigation was tainted from the start when Tennessee authorities refused to identify Wray for nearly two weeks after the accident until pressed by this newspaper.
James Clark, a friend of Cross’, was injured during the incident.
The case has dragged for two years, compounding the grief of the victims’ families and leaving the appearance that if you have the wherewithal, you can game the system – even the justice system.
Very troubling indeed.
