Bob Marshall Loves The Virginia Sierra Club
He proudly displays the Virginia Sierra Club endorsement on his website. Lets look at what the Sierra Club thinks about the Coalfields..Click the title to view the group that endorsed Bob Marshall.
Stop Dominion's Coal Fired Power Plant in Wise County.
and
The Sierra Club is planning lawsuits to halt construction of coal plants in seven states, arguing that the mercury-spewing plants violate the Clean Air Act. Noting that a federal appeals court ruled in February that the Bush administration's mercury regulations were too lax, the green group seeks to require the coal plants to get new state permits meeting tougher emissions standards. "We want to give moms across the country some peace of mind this Mother's Day," says Bruce Nilles of the Sierra Club. "That's why we're taking action ... to ensure that these coal plants make every effort to keep their toxic mercury pollution out of our communities."
I don't look for Bob Marshall to visit the coalfields anytime soon do you? Coal miners and their families don't need Bob Marshall around and that is for sure. Maybe Bob would like to come down and speak at Coal Heritage Days. Heh.
Bob Marshall is no Friend of Coal.

Bob needs to stay in NOVA. We damn sure dont need his anti coal behind in Washington.
I will cast my vote for Jim Gilmore.
I was not impressed with Marshall attacking Bolling and McDonnell for endorsing Gilmore.
Bob Marshall is the only candidate for U.S. Senate in Virginia that is pushing the use and expansion of coal use to bring jobs to Southwest Virginia. Mr. Gilmore wants those jobs to go to Alaska in ANWAR. Mr. Marshall has long been a friend to coal and wants those jobs to be here in Virginia before going elsewhere. He was endorsed by the Sierra Club in his Delegate race for stopping power towers from coming through parts of the state and taking people's property from them. The power from the power towers would not go to Virginia homes. Bob Marshall is the only candidate to have a 2nd Amendment endorsement in this race, the Gun Owners of America have endoresed him as well as the Family Research Council for his work to protect unborn children from abortion and saving marriage from same sex marriage in the 2006 marriage amendment he pushed through.
Anon2:52...You don't fly the Sierra Club flag and then say you support coal. You sell that to someone else.
Coalminers are not dumb and the coal companies support will not go to Marshall.
Jim Gilmore sits on the NRA Board of Directors. He does not need their endorsement.
I read Marshall's Anti Gun bills and he will not get my support no matter what the GOA thinks. No knives in parks? Pleeeeeze.
ALpha minor,
Please read the references in my gun bills to code sections that provide exemptions from coverage. You will see that it is only if someone uses a weapon in a threatening manner (self defense ins sot such an event) that they will be covered, not if they merely possess a weapon.
And Carl Kilo, didn't Christ associated with tax collectors, prostitutes, and worst of all, lawyers, but he was none of these. (I've met some nice lawyers. Terry Kilgore is one.)
DO you think out of state power companies should have eminent domain power to condemn land in Virginia and build 160 foot high towers for folks in New England and do so without any legal notice to Virginia home owners? Probably not, neither does the Sierra Club.
I asked VA Att. Gen. Bob McDonnell to sue the US Dept. of Energy on this point, and he is for lack of due process notice. If you are for Gilmore you might and Jim why he did not testify before the DOE when there was a public hearing for folks to make their views known.
I testified to protect your home. Why didn't Jim Gilmore, or Mark Warner?
You also might think that home developers should pay for the roads made necessary for the homes they build, instead of you paying, so does the Sierra CLub.
IT is much safer and more accurate to judge people by their actions, and not their associations.
I am a Republican candidate for US Senate who has mentioned using coal for liquid fuel when out campaigning. I have not heard Jim Gilmore mention coal. He might support it, but he won;t debate me so I do not know.
AMerica has the largest coal reserves in the world. And coal has been used before as a liquid fuel. The German military ran their war effort (planes, tanks, trucks, and other vehicles) on liquid fuel from coal more than 60 years ago. South Africa uses synfuels made from coal right now.
WIth the price of oil what it is, relying on coal to fuel our cars and trucks is more of a liklihood. We put catalytic converters on cars and trucks to make that fuel less damaging to the air, I think similar means could be used to keep pollution down from coal powered cars, etc.
IT is my ability and willingness to make alliances that others would find impossible that is of benefit to citizens when seeking to pursue policies that benefit the common good.
Why don't you ask the lobby representative for the Virginia Coal Industry, Tommy Hudson, about me. You might find I wear horns only part of the time.
Delegate Bob Marshall, Republican US Senate candidate
With all do respect Del Marshall, coal to liquid fuel was sold here years ago-CTC Fuels. It failed in less than one year.
The Sierra Club has fought and hindered the Virginia City Power Plant. Did you support us at the SCC and DEQ meetings that the Sierra Club members showed up in force to fight the plant? Did Gilmore show up up to support us? No, but then again he does not fly the Sierra club banner. You have a tough sell with coalminers sir.
If any person possesses any (i) stun weapon or taser as defined in this section, (ii) knife having a metal blade of three inches or longer, or (iii) weapon, other than a firearm, designated in subsection A of § 18.2-308 upon the property of any park owned by a county, city, town or the Commonwealth he shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
That is clear to me.
Thanks for commenting Mr Marshall. Those two bills are GUN CONTROL. My wife and daughters should have no restrictions on what they carry in parks. Be it Knives, Tasers, Mace, or my .45
"And Carl Kilo, didn't Christ associated with tax collectors, prostitutes, and worst of all, lawyers, but he was none of these. (I've met some nice lawyers. Terry Kilgore is one.)"
You are no Jesus Bob.
Yes Jesus consorted with them, but he also called them out on their ways.
The Sierra Club has lied about this plant saying it would increase strip mining. That is untrue. The remaining coal in SWVA is not surface coal and that is public record. Will you call them out or just continue to fly the banner?
I'm sorry Mr. Marshall, you showed your disdain for SWVA when you said during our phone conversation, "...US58 is just a public works project...", meaning, I suppose, that it's just not that important to you guys in NOVA.
You lost me then, seeking support from opponents of coal and proposing a couple of anti-gun bills just cap it.
