Sad. I wished they could have performed better. In reality, they did great - 14 wins, 63 top-five and 146 top-10 finishes along with 13 pole positions. They dominated the restricter plate races for a couple years. Drivers included Sterling Marlin, Ernie Irvan, and the late Bobby Hamilton.
ABINGDON, Va. — It’s been a long and often bumpy road for Southwest Virginia’s only NASCAR team during the past 25 years. At least for now, the engine has been silenced on the familiar No. 4 Chevrolet.
Morgan-McClure Motorsports co-owner Tim Morgan said team officials decided to cease operations Friday afternoon.
"It’s been a pretty emotional day, but we had to make a decision and draw the line," Morgan said in a telephone interview shortly after a 3 p.m. meeting at the race shop. "We’ve competed too long without sponsorship." Tricities.Com

post a commentIt is a sad day. I met Mr. Morgan in 1995 when my (ex)wife and I were racing in Nashville at a celebrity race.
We were able to race with Coo Coo Marlin, Sterling Marlin, Stedham Marlin (3 generations), along with Richard Petty, Kyle Petty and the now late Adam Petty.
It was a grand time and Mr. Morgan and Company contributed a great amount of money to the Mark Collie Foundation.
Too bad they couldn't find a sponsor. With the right money, you CAN buy speed and be competitive.

You are right about the money! I am hoping a sponsership comes along before Daytona...35 days.
I really hate to see a good bunch of guys run out of racing by the big guys at NASCAR. I have been by the race shop and you wouldn't find a better bunch of guys or be made to feel more welcome.
It is a shame that you have to have multi car teams and soo much money to compete.
I wish you guys the best of luck and really hope you find a great sponsor with deep pockets.

I hear you Mike. This sport I love has changed so much....And not for the better IMHO.
It is sad that Nascar has gone in a direction which is totally opposite to its roots! Nascar needs more teams such as Morgan McClure and should encourage them, not put barriers to the single car teams. The #4 will always have a place in our hearts and especially my sons since the #4 has been his favorite team since he was 4 years old. The team shop is a great place to visit and the people always made us feel at home. Best of luck - Albert T
I hate to see this day come. Drive past the shop just a few weeks ago. Wish the best for all involved. Hope that we might be able to see the team back on track again in the future.
Too many years of musical chairs with drivers, and too many chiefs calling shots and making changes to how the car was set up for a race. Insiders say that some owners of the team couldn't keep their hands off the car.
