Local Wine Wins Best of Show at the State Fair
Very Cool! The MoutainRose vineyard here in Wise makes a mark at the state fair. Their Autumn Gold Vidal Blanc is a winner.
Phones at MountainRose Vineyard have been ringing ever since. Many people have called to offer their congratulations, and plenty want to buy a bottle of the award-winning wine. Not bad for a winery that has been in operation for only three years.
"There is a good buzz about it," David Lawson said of the talk generated by the contest win. "We’ve had several people want a bottle. Some say they can’t get out here, and they ask us to save them a bottle."
Lawson’s face was animated, his love of his profession evident, as he described Autumn Gold.
"It’s definitely got a lot of apricot aroma and hints of honey," he said. "It’s a very rich mouthful. I think it’s got good crisp acidity, and that balances the sweetness."
Virginia’s wine judges were impressed. Fifteen judges conducted a blind tasting of 186 wines from 42 vineyards in June. Thirty-one wines received gold medals, but Autumn Gold was the big winner.(LINK)
Apricots and honey? Wise Girl likes it. Now back to bourbon and cigars...
