He clearly stated both in the debate and on Hannity and Colmes after the debate that "SOME" people simply use the immgration issue as a free pass for racism, but MOST recognize it to be a serious issue, as does he. He said this because some people with racist attitudes have spoken with him personally. I personally know what he is talking about. I am half caucasion, half hispanic, and most people generally do not know my ethnic makeup (don't know I'm half hispanic). I have heard people talk about immigration in a clearly racist way, as well as those talk about it as an important issue, not a race thing. So understand, that Mike doesn't just "think people are being racist" but that there ARE some people who really are racist! Racism is unfortunatly alive and well, and it shames and taints the real issue of illegal immigration and having secure borders. I think you should go back and watch Mike on Hannity and Colmes on youtube immediatly after the debate for more commentary direct from the horse's mouth. I respectfully believe that you simply misunderstodd him.

That is called damage control.
Race has nothing to do with immigration, the law is clear-illegal is illegal. Immigration laws are not racist.
The fact that he had to clarify his statement on stage and after on Hannity shows it was a dumb comment.
