Webb Watch - Jim Webb - Populist?
The self-proclaimed populist from Virginia, freshman Senator Jim Webb, joined 10 other Democrats to ensure the defeat of a measure that would have restored the income tax for 0.3% of us who earn more than US$1Million annually.Bernie Sanders wants Millionaires to pay taxes again - the way they used to before their boy Bush took the Oval Office, but congress won't have any part of it. It's not surprising that every single Republican in the Senate voted against his bill, which would use the restored taxes on 0.3% of the tax base to provide a form of tax relief for the middle class - but they were joined by 11 Democrats who should be remembered the next time primaries come around.
One of the "Democrats" who voted against the tax relief meaure described in David Sirota's article below is Jim Webb, whose election in Virginia was hailed as a populist victory. Webb justified his conservative stance on many issues by claiming to be a populist restoring the Democrats rightful hold on a state where many people struggle to make ends meet.That's not going to change with Webb in the Senate: his populist showboating ended with an interview in the New Yorker: he's just as much of a Republican as he was when during the Reagan years and has no loyalty whatsoever to the common man for whom taxes remain a burden second only to death.
