VHSL Apologizes to Norton for Stupid Call
I know it is just High School Football, but seeing a young group of boys robbed gets my goat. You can read a little background on the game here. The BRISTOL HERALD COURIER has this:
In a statement regarding a controversial penalty on Dec. 9 with 50 seconds left in the Raiders' 21-20 loss against Riverheads in the Group A, Division 1 title game, the VHSL admitted mistakes were made by the officiating crew.........The statement acknowledged that the Winchester Officials Association, which supplied a seven-man crew for the game, and the official who flagged Stewart admitted the call was incorrect.
He could have admitted that after the call. We will never know why the flag was thrown or the real outcome of the game. Some have said it was the bias against the Lonesome Pine District team. I find that hard to buy into with the dynasty's of Clintwood, Powell Valley, Appalachia, and Gate City's state championship success. It is history now and Norton has this letter as their comfort. I think anything less than the said official being brought to Norton and tarred and feathered will fall short.
