Nancy Pelosi-Rep. William Jefferson - Honesty in Politics
If you watched Nancy Pelosi on Meet the Press she promised to call for an ethics investigation of fellow democrat Rep. William Jefferson (La.) for receiving $450,000 in bribes. On Meet the Press:
REP. PELOSI: No, no. This-you're talking two completely different things. You're talking about some Democrats who have an ethical challenge. Mr.Jefferson-I've asked for the Ethics Committee to investigate Mr. Jefferson.
Was that true? It does not look like it was. From The Hill Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry (N.C.) is helping her keep that promise.
McHenry has prepared an ethics complaint for Pelosi to file against a fellow Democratic lawmaker, Rep. William Jefferson (La.), who is under investigation by the Justice Department for allegedly having received more than $450,000 in bribes. "We're taking paperwork off her desk - who doesn't appreciate that?" quipped McHenry, who plans to send the complaint to Pelosi today. McHenry was spurred to produce the complaint after Pelosi said last week that she thinks the House ethics committee should investigate the Louisianan."In the spirit of fairness and bipartisanship, we're helping her keep the promise she made on [NBC's] 'Meet the Press' to request an ethics committee investigation of Jefferson," McHenry said.
You really should read the rest of this story. This is politics at its very best. The reason Pelosi's staff give for her not filing this is unbelievable.
