Marine Col. Wesley Fox

Just a couple days in and Lowell is doing damage control. Over 1300 words worth. I think he better get used to that role as his candidate has a history that will be revealed....Anyway, lets look at a real local hero from Warren County, Va. who spoke at Mountain Empire Community College yesterday. Retired Marine Col. Wesley Fox had the crowd captivated with his words and accounts of war. He spent 43 years in the Marines. He was in two wars, Korea and Vietnam, he was wounded twice and awarded the Medal of Honor. His web page is here. Here is what he said after 9/11

For the last ten years, we Americans have been hit numerous times by terrorists with the resulting loss of many lives. We knew who were behind the acts and we negotiated, we talked. Our good intentions were for nothing; we are seen as ineffective, as paper tigers, so we are slapped harder. Some people who share our world understand and respect only the fist, not words.

We are at last standing up against a modern day Hitler and using our fist. If we had done something positive the first time the Trade Center was bombed, we would have six thousand more citizens today.

The warrior has come center stage, once again, and it is time for the tender-hearted to take a seat and be quiet. The warrior will ensure that they, the talkers, retain all of their rights, to include letting the warrior do the tough, ugly work. I am fully behind the idea of hitting the terrorist and all who harbor them with our military might; this is the only message these people understand. We are at war!

God Bless America.

Wes

What does he say about Iraq? This if from todays Kingsport Times. "Fox said he still wishes he could serve and lead Marines in Iraq today" I wish he could too. The views on this war are dime a dozen. I like Wes Clark's view. All we get from the left is hindsight."Hindsight alone is not wisdom, and second-guessing is not a strategy." -- George W. Bush, January 31, 2006
