Mountaineers beat Georgia 38-35
It is fitting with the happenings with the coal miners in West Virginia that the unexpected happens. Entering the game a huge underdog the Mountaineers beat Georgia 38-35 in the Sugar Bowl. ESPN.com has only 17.1% of fans picked the West Virginia Mountaineers to win.
I know winning a football game is no comparison or comfort to what the miners families are going through. The way coal mining communities band together has always been admired by me. I hope that this game made someone there smile and forget the present situation if only for a few minutes. I still have hope. There is always hope. They have the best people on the scene. Being from a coal mining area I doubt I rest much till it is over. I have stood outside a mine waiting for news and it is not something you will ever forget. It is heartbreaking to watch. Oh yes, the bond shared by miners and families is strong.
It is 1:50 am and they say they are ready to drill the first hole. As Alton posts here..It has been a long time.
