Blogging-A part of my youth is no longer used

Thanks to Appalachian Gun Trash for this.

Fire Halls were big time fun for me as a kid in Chicago. I hate to read this about the brass polls disappearing from fire halls today. Whats next? The Bat polls to the Bat Cave?

  • Jack Flesher, a 16-year veteran of the department, said as older stations are replaced, the fire pole will probably completely disappear with them.

"The biggest thing is that insurance companies are making fire departments get away from them because of accidents and things like that. The newer stations just didn't bother to put them in because of the insurance," Flesher said.

Fireman in Chicago were as popular as the Cubs and Bears. Sad to see this piece of Americana go. Maybe my dream house will have a brass poll.
