3rd District Forum
The Bristol paper had this review of the forum held for the special election. The article leaves much to be desired. It is incomplete on most issues. It only covers a few questions on transportation and of course abortion. When asked about abortion the article gives 3 candidates answers but not the 4th candidates response. One thing that stands out to me is Shea Cook's response on transportation revenue
The moderator, Emory & Henry College President Tom Morris, later asked the candidates how they felt about generating new transportation revenue. Cook said he supports an increase in the natural gas severance tax because Southwest Virginia now levies one of the lowest gas severance taxes in the nation.
"Over the years, with a reasonable tax policy, ... there's no reason there couldn't be a sidewalk up every hollow in Buchanan County," Cook said.
Bowling, Wright and Elkins all agreed with Cook's severance tax stance....
I love that!
