Reid It And Weep

Talking Points Memo quotes an article regarding Senator Harry Reid and the issue of partially privatizing Social Security:

Not a single Senate Democrat will support President Bush’s proposal to divert a portion of the Social Security payroll tax to personal investment accounts, Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Tuesday.

Interesting to he how the Democrats were much more open to the idea of saving Social Security when a Democrat was President. Back in 1999, Harry Reid said on Fox News Sunday, "[M]ost of us have no problem with taking a small amount of the Social Security proceeds and putting it into the private sector."

It seems as if the Democrats know very well there's a need to fix Social Security... they just want wait until a Democrat is president again (assuming that ever happens again) before addressing it because they couldn't stand the idea of Republicans tampering with FDR's legacy.
