The story about Michelle Obama gorging herself on room service at the Waldorf-Astoria on October 15th is false:

I could care less what she eats Doug, the quote is the story.

Blogger Doug said ... (10:27 PM) :

Well, I've seen that quote on several blogs and have yet to see a link to where or when it was actually uttered.

The fact that it's now been paired with an objectively false story makes me suspicious.

Personally, I don't want my pie going to Obama's health care plan or to fund John McCain's stupid mortgage bailout idea, so, you know, it really doesn't matter to me which one of these ying-yangs wins the election.

Blogger Carl Kilo said ... (10:42 PM) :

It's not who you like Doug, it's who scares you the least..LOL.

Blogger Doug said ... (10:58 PM) :

Nope, I'm tired of playing that came.

I'm tired of choosing between the evil party and the stupid party.

When the Republicans get their act together and actually govern like they believe in free markets and individual liberty, rather than just putting in their platform every four years and then ignoring it, then they can have my vote back.

Blogger Carl Kilo said ... (12:58 AM) :

Enjoy the leadership of Obama and Co. because that is the end result.

Blogger Doug said ... (5:30 AM) :

You know, people said the same things about Bill Clinton in 1992 that they're saying about Barack Obama now. And, for the most part, they were wrong.

I didn't vote for Clinton, but I think it's fairly obvious that the defeat of Bush 41 was, in the long run, a good thing for the GOP.

Had Bush been re-elected, there would have been no Republican Revolution in 1994, no welfare reform, and, most likely we would ended up with a Democrat in office in 1996, with a Democratic Congress.

If the Republican Party is smart, then they'll emerge from this loss as an opposition party that people actually want to vote for.

If they don't, the only people that will be voting for them are the people who listen to Limbaugh and Hannity.

Big difference - A democratic controlled congress and judges to be appointed...Yes there is a huge difference.

Blogger Carl Kilo said ... (8:40 AM) :

BTW - Instapundit posted that quote from the Charlotte Observer. It was also linked on Right Wing News.

Blogger Doug said ... (5:38 PM) :

Do you really think that John McCain, the man who gave us McCain-Feingold, is going to appoint another John Roberts or Alito ?

The best that conservatives could have hoped for out of a President McCain would have been another O'Connor or Souter, especially considering the fact that he'd be dealing with a Democratic Senate.

Personally, I find it amazing that conservatives are rallying to the cause of the man that they were condemning only a year or so ago over the immigration bill.

Does anyone honestly think he's changed ?

A President McCain with a Democratic Congress would be different from an Obama with a Democratic Congress in that, with McCain, the growth in government would be called "bipartisan"

Blogger Carl Kilo said ... (7:22 PM) :

Doug, I am not going to argue with you. Go ahead an vote for Obama, and will take my chances with McCain.
While I dont like everything McCain has done, his stance on Life, Guns, Taxes, and the Military are more inline with my beliefs.
While you may be surprised at conservatives rallying to McCain, we are just as surprised that so called libertarians rally to big govt Obama.

Blogger Doug said ... (10:29 PM) :

Who said I was voting for Obama ?

I'm voting for the only candidate in the race who actually believes in limited government, individual, liberty, and free markets --- Bob Barr:

And you might be interested in Leslie Carbone's reasons for why conservatives should vote against John McCain:

http://tinyurl.com/5zw8hd

This is 1996 all over again (although I'm guessing this will be a defeat more on the scale of Dukakis' in 1988), and just like they did with Bob Dole, the Republicans picked the wrong candidate and they're going to pay for it.

Blogger Carl Kilo said ... (12:03 AM) :

Doug, a vote for Barr is a vote for Obama.
I am conservative but I am also a realist. While you may feel good about your vote for Barr, you will end up under Obama's leadership. That is the reality of the election. You and Leslie may not like it, hell I dont like it, but this is McCain/Obama and McCain needs your vote. We try to change the party astray after the election.

Blogger Doug said ... (6:37 AM) :

Carl,

If I actually thought there was a dime's worth of difference between Obama and McCain on the fundamental issues, then maybe I'd agree. But there isn't. McCain's record proves to me that his rhetoric about limited government is just that, rhetoric -- and his sponsorship of stuff like McCain-Feingold and his vote in favor of the bailout prove that as far as I'm concerned.

I fell for the "lesser of two evils" argument in the last two Presidential elections, and it got me a President who increased the size of the government at a pace that would have made LBJ blush, even when you don't include the defense budget. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
