WISE — Ninth District U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher was in Wise Friday to announce the awarding of a $5.4 million federal funding package to improve the town’s aging water infrastructure.
According to the congressman, the federal Rural Development agency is providing two $1 million grants along with low-interest loans to make critical upgrades to the town’s water treatment plant and increase the water storage capacity at the Bear Creek reservoir.
“One of my primary goals in representing Southwest Virginia is to work with our local governments to obtain federal funding for our region’s water and wastewater facilities,” he said, adding that an adequate supply of clean, potable water is a quality of life issue.
He said the projects will greatly improve the chances for growth in the town.
“Residents and businesses in the town of Wise will benefit from the provision of more reliable water service and the enhanced opportunity for residential and economic development,” he said.LINK
The water plant will be upgraded and the reservoir will double its capacity. But will the town PLEASE stock some catfish instead of those pesky trout!
