Thoughts on the Debate
I think we all can agree the format sucked-Expected. Chris Mathews interrupted the candidates many times-Expected. The focus would be on the Big Three-Expected.
The quality of most questions and the stupidity of others was unexpected. Who wants Bill Clinton back in the White House? With that I was reminded why I don't watch MSNBC. I feel for all of the 10 brave candidates having to endure this 90 minutes. I also give credit to The Mason Conservative for this Pre Debate rant. We had 10 brave Republicans face the liberal loving MSNBC while the Democratic candidates cut and run from Fox. Priceless!
I agree with Alton's summery for the most part. He writes “there were no losers tonight, but no clear winner either.” Of the Big Three I think Rudy was a little disappointing. McCain acted a little forceful for me. Romney was polished and looked at ease on stage. Of those three I think Mitt gets the prize.
The mostly ignored “second tier candidates” is the real story here. My man Duncan Hunter shined with his answer on global warming. His response that energy independence and global warming should be addressed hand in hand was refreshing and very true. Heck I was even surprised by that. The crowd here loved it! For the pitiful time allotted to him Duncan looked good. I thought Jim Gilmore faired well, as did Huckabee.
Thompson's fire those homosexuals was THE bad debate moment. The best debate moment was the line question on cutting taxes. Imagine the Democrats getting that question!
In the end this MSNBC production should make the perfect blue print for how not to run a debate. Most of us are reminded why we don't watch that channel. Line question is the format we want. One question and all given time to answer.
IMHO-MSNBC failed with both party debates and in my opinion they are losers. The biggest losers are us, the people. MSNBC denied both parties a chance to show America what they have.
