UVA Students Sanctioned for Protest
Last month 17 UVA students held a sit in at UVA to protest school employees low wages. The 17 must write letters of apology to police, administrators, and to employees.
Kevin Simowitz, one of the 17, said "the sanctions themselves are not severe, but the message is very severe. That students won't stand up for other students and it ensures that only the administration gets a voice."(LINK)
I think that is a crop of b/s. The time to bitch about wages is before you take the job, not after. Want a raise, ask for one. I have always felt that my wage was between me and my employer. I accepted that when hired. I made the choice to accept employment. The idea of students protesting to get employees a raise is weird. Cant those poor employees stand up for themselves? That phrase "living wage" sounds like socialism to me. Just what is a living wage? Why stop at $10 an hour, hell I want $20! Where does it end. These students efforts would have been well spent elsewhere. They still face trespassing charges. If convicted that will be on their record and will show up on any background check. All the while the employees they protested for will be working and living on their wage. College life!
