Alito breaks rank on first day
Alito breaks ranks and sides with majority on staying the execution of Michael Taylor, leaving Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas to stand alone in voting to allow the execution to continue. The issue is not guilt or innocence, but whether the 3 drug cocktail is a cruel punishment.
Taylor pleaded guilty, along with an accomplice, to kidnapping, raping and murdering 15-year-old Ann Harrison in 1989. The men abducted the girl as she waited for a school bus in front of her home.
He has challenged his death sentence on the grounds that the three-drug cocktail of lethal chemicals used in executions carry the risk of undue suffering, violating the Constitution's protection against cruel and unusual punishment.
The man thinks for himself and this proves that. I am glad to see this addressed. I support the death penalty, so is lethal injection cruel and unusual punishment? I am for bringing back this. Fast and cheap.
