Sago Mine Fund
International Coal Group has established the "Sago Mine Fund" to assist the families of victims of this week's mine disaster in Upshur County, W.Va.
People wishing to contribute can send donations to P.O. Box 1510, New York, NY 10150 or call 1-800-811-0441. Donations via credit cards will be accepted.
ICG made an initial contribution of $2 million to the Sago Mine Fund. Early response to this fund has been described as "overwhelming."
So the company puts up $2 million to get it started. According to Don Surber another coal giant puts up a quarter million.
The company ponied up $2 million and set up a fund for survivors. Uh, guys, that is more than $150,000 per miner, not exactly ducking responsibility. Don Blankenship at Massey (a competitor) ponied up $250,000. I don't want to hear about coal barons.
